Norton 360 doesn't allow me to create system image on an external harddrive

So when I try to create a "system image" on an external harddrive, there is action from Norton 360 that causes it to fail.  I tried to disable to auto-protect and turned on silent mode.  The system image creation still failed.  Is there a way to turn this all off so the system image can be created.  This all worked last January but now, no more.

Errors from the system image are 0x80780166 and 0x800701B1

I deleted the Norton 360 and the system image worked.  I reloaded up the Norton 360 and ran LiveUpdate until it was all updated.  I then ran the system image again just to see if it would work and it did.  

So what caused my problem must have been some quirk.  I never tried any of the suggestions.  Thanks for your help.

If you disable auto protect and firewall, then Norton should not interfere: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v64908971 If you need you can try and uninstall Norton and see if it is blocking you: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20090708112...

Note: Disable Auto-Protect & Disable Smart Firewall does not turn off Intrusion and Browser Protection, Data Protector nor Exploit Prevention.

Umm, I posted to this thread yesterday yet the post appears to have been removed for some odd reason. Not the first time that has happened. Lets see if this post makes the muster this time.

The error codes you are seeing "suggest" the "Volume Shadow Copy" service may not be enabled or running per this Microsoft article for review.  Check for and enable that service and restart the machine to see if it provides any different results for you. We can assist further from there.
