Norton Password Manager (NPM) fails to recall the password on a split page login for the Washington Post website & instead offers to generate a new password. This happens for only for this site.
I'd like NPM to use it's stored password.

One can login to The Washington Post 5 ways using:
email address,
Amazon,
Facebook,
Google and
Apple.
Attempting to login using a Gmail address triggered the Generate New Password prompt.
Logging in using Google was immediate.
Not sure what distinguishes one method from the other, but the problem has been resolved.

Thanks for the help.
Ultimately the problem was solved on a phone call with the help of a human being in support who recognized a conflict between a gmail userid & the Google option. The NPM Washington Post entry has been removed.
