I installed Norton Security and now I am unable to connect to remote computers via FTP which is an essential part of my job. Is there a way to enable FTP access?
By default , Norton Firewall blocks FTP access in the public network due to the security reason. But you can add exception rule to allow FTP. Please try following steps and check if this resolves your problem.
In the Norton main window, click Settings.
In the Settings window, click Firewall.
On the Traffic Rules tab, click Add.
Follow the instructions in the Add Rule wizard.(Ports to be allowed 21 & 20 for successful transfers, Outbound)
In the Traffic Rules window, click OK.
Since traffic rules works in the order , make sure to place the new created rule in the top.
I'm trying to setup my FTP without sucess. First, I can stop the Norton Firewall and all works fine. Router seems right (port 20-21 pointing or port forwarding to my local IP address of my server) so I am assuming the rest of my problems is Norton Firewall. The above reference helped but did not work correctly. Below are my entries for "Modity Rule" - step 4 above.
Action... Allow. Self explanatory.
Connection... I need to and from. Users need ot upload too. Simple enough.
Communications... Here is where it is not working. Using protocol TCP and UDP (only one with port 20 and 21). If I apply the rule to only these ports, 20 & 21, it will NOT work. It only works with "all types of communication ports"
Advanced... Had to set NAT traversal traffic to "On". Would not work with default "If Explicity requested". I don't understand this.
Description... Self explanatory.
Need this setup properly. Need help.
I set up the firewall rule on my computer win7 x64 with no issues whatsoever. TCP/UDP Ports 20 and 21, All computers to and from, and only when explicitly requested. Using Norton Security 220.127.116.11
Thanks. Couple of differences. I am using Windows 10 x64 Pro and my version is 18.104.22.168. Explicitly requested does work contrary to my last post. Another thing I wonder about is that Windows 10 has its built in Windows Defender in the mix although Norton seems to turn things off automatically. Windows firewall is off for sure. Been reading and working on this for days. Wonder how vulnerable I am with all ports open? Uploaded my Linksys port routing.
