Problem sending mail with Outlook 2010

I'm wondering if there has been any recent issues involving Norton Security and Outlook 2010 that would cause a time out issue with the SMTP server?  If I restart my system all is well and I can send mail however, after a period of time any time I send a new message or reply to a message I'm getting a 0x8004210B error that state that the "operation time out waiting for a response the sending SMTP server..  Once I start getting these errors they continue until I restart my system.  After trying numerous things I removed the Norton AntiSpam from running and disabled the Norton Add-On in Outlook 2010 and so far I've been able to send mail for the last 2 hours.  This may be a coincidence but I thought I would ask.

Hello Moondoggy51. Norton anti-spam addon is hit and miss at best with Outlook and other e-mail clients. Here is an article provided by Microsoft concerning the specific error code you are seeing. Just a few things you may want to check on your end with Outlook itself.

I believe I have this problem fixed.  It seems that I had a bad connector on the fiber optic outside of my home and a bad gateway.  Now that the connection has been fixed and I have a new AT&T gateway I have not had an issue all day.
