Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hi,

I noticed that the post by dbdan22 and thread on this topic 19 Jul 2018 is closed hence this new one.

I just turned on my pc (Windows 10 vers. 1083 all updates installed and Norton 22.17.10.183) and for the first time the box Antispam OE Hook Launcher popped up quoting my Hotmail address account which I rarely use in favour of btinternet.com. Unlike the previous user I do not use a web mail browser but Outlook as part of Office 2013.  I also normally access my emails via my iPad Pro using its mail client.

Why would I want to turn the Anti Spam feature off? If no problem with Win 10 or Norton, should I ignore the pop up box or insert my mail password.

Thanks

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hi Guys,

I had an online chat with Norton after not receiving any response to my post – they said they would follow it up with the forum. I now see that mwtucker posted a similar problem on this subject on 14 Apr 2019 to which the Sunil_GA is involved but is not yet resolved. Will someone please advise what this pop up is about, is it a Norton or Microsoft issue. The pop up is so annoying.

Thanks

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

I have just started receiving the same error message.  Since there is no About menu anymore, I have no idea what version of Norton Antivirus I have.  But its up to date.  I am using a Microsoft Outlook 16 client with a Microsoft 365 Exchange Server account.  I don't use any web email.  The pop up usually only comes up once, when I initially sign on my computer, and before I start the Outlook client.  I usually just kill the pop up window and everything seems to work fine, but i would sure like to know what is going on.  I have attached a copy of the pop-up.  Is this malware?  Other posts that I have read seem to point to a Norton issue.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hello Hydrad and I hope I'm not butting in...  I'm running Norton Security 22.17.0.183 and if I go into the Help screen, it still shows About and shows the version number.  Is AntiVirus different?

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

I am another waiting for a solution to this issue.  Many are waiting from posts I've seen for many months.  Hope solution is posted here.  @paul862 if you are provided private message with the solution then please post here that your issue has been resolved.  Thus we will know to begin our own contact with Norton since the solution might be user specific and Norton is not posting the solution here.  Thank YOU!

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hi glc73,

I have been sent a tool to capture logs when the issue arises. The downside is since I have initiated it the antispam oe hook launcher has not happened as it is a random occurrence. It is known by Norton that customers are having difficulties in trying to capture it, doesn’t speak too well for the Norton product. I am presently on holiday and hope to resume the capture on the weekend.

If all users were seeing the same issue all the time, it would be easy to diagnose. As your issue is only being seen by a few users and intermittently, it is very difficult to find the common denominator to what is causing the issue. This would be true with any software developer. No specific comment on Norton.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

All: Often times the credentials issue stems from a corrupted .pst file. Please follow the suggestions in this article for a possible resolution.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

I regretfully advise that my Outlook 2013 with IMAP only uses .ost files I have no .pst on my pc.

Yesterday with the Symantec Diagnostic Tool running – debug logging enabled and having rebooted, the Antispam popup appeared. Hurray I thought and proceeded with the Debug Log collection by pressing “next” and “yes” to be advised on the next screen that an error occurred (red crosses) with the Norton Logs and Norton Security.

Today as an experiment I went through the steps again and tried to collect the report even though the popup has not appeared. The Tool started collecting the data and paused saying Norton Security was unable to save C:\Users\......\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp9484\securityLog.mcf – the system could not find the path. The Tool restarted on pressing OK. Is this a concern?

Looking at the completed log report there is one requiring attention Norton Security drivers and services – Service “ccSet_SCS” is not configured for the proper operation of Norton Security – Service is not installed. Does this bear any relevance.

I also noticed in Outlook that it detected a Slow and Disabled COM add-in problem (decreased performance 1.2 secs or caused Outlook to crash) with the Norton Antispam Outlook Plugin and asking whether to always enable the add-in.

I shall endeavour to try and capture the popup, but any help on the above would be appreciated. Like mwtucker I can disable the Antispam in Norton but it defeats the object of having it. Thanks.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Paul, this may be related. Norton antispam on Outlook, ONLY supports POP3 and SMTP protocols per this article. IMAP is not supported. According to this Microsoft article .ost files are used in Outlook 2016 and newer, and are the defaults with IMAP accounts regardless of the Outlook version 2013 and higher. Some other options are available for you at the end of the article.

You also stated in your opening post:

I also normally access my emails via my iPad Pro using its mail client.

The following clients are NOT supported regarding client integration.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

So are you saying that Since Outlook clients 2016 and above default to IMAP, that they are not compatible with Norton Antispam?  How about Norton Antivirus, are IMAP and exchange server mail clients incompatible with Norton Antivirus as well?

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hydrad, my posts states that, if an e-mail account is setup with Outlook 2013 and higher, AND, its setup as IMAP, the data storage files will be of the .oct format. Outlook 2016 and above will also use the .oct file format by default but can be changed, since if accounts are setup as POP3 or SMTP WITHOUT SSL they are supported. The .oct format is used for Exchange server services and synch across multiple devices, while the .pst format stores all the e-mail data locally. Those formats are most closely related to web-based e-mail service and their accounts. Per the previous linked article is states:

Norton AntiSpam supported protocols and ports

    • Only POP3 and SMTP protocol is supported.

    • POP3 with SSL is not supported.

    • IMAP & Exchange accounts are not supported.

    • If email client is configured in ports other than default ports 110, then the new port needs to be added to protected ports.

Thanks for jumping into the thread Sunil. Norton assistance is always a welcome sight.

Cheers
