Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

Every year this annoys the hell out of me. This year was extra special because I was presenting to a client. I've had three nag screens in one day. I am so over it. I have the new key ready to go because it's half the price of renewal.

So many complaints over the years and you do nothing but annoy the hell out of legitimate customers.

Turn them off or give us the option to turn them off.

I'm going to add every nag notification for the next seven days just to annoy you. This one is extra-bright-red-annoying-level-twelve.

Annoying six days remaining nag screen. Mid presentation on an 80" TV when the Norton renewal nag appeared. This is incredibly intrusive. It's definitely a new day for me so I'm not sure why the remaining days is the same.

My wife was giving the presentation using my computer. I took a quick photo for this forum and then slipped behind her and closed the window. I wasn’t about to see what options I had with 25 people watching. From memory, it lets you enter a new key, which I have but you lose the days if you enter it early.

Yet another annoying nag notification. This time, for the same four days I had yesterday. The drop down has the option to remind me later. We'll see how that goes. I don't see an option for please don't remind me again.

Same day for me, three hours after my most recent four day reminder, hey presto a three day reminder. Now that I'm documenting the lunacy, this is a ridiculous number of annoying notifications. No wonder it seemed overly intrusive.

...and on top of Norton's huge popups, we also have the more standard slightly less annoying Windows notifications.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

Woohoo! Only two more days of this madness, two hours after my three day warning.

I'm guessing the subscription dates and times are not synced with the time zone. I've generally been getting two warnings per computer before lunch and then nothing for the day. The first warning is a repeat from the day before so the roll-over time between annoyances must be less than twenty four hours. The big red pop-up adverts are an exception to the rule and appear whenever it's most inconvenient.

Also of note, the two computers are not in sync so the alerts appear at different times.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

This is an excellent product with the exception of this one annoying feature. Please have some thoughts about fixing it.

In summary, 22 reminders in 7 days! This isn't counting all the Windows notifications as they can be turned off to respect the user's desires. That's an average of three per day. How much reminding do we need? If I wrote a little application to display pop-up adverts three times a day, I'm pretty sure Norton would flag it as malware.

Solutions

  1. Allow us to turn them off.
  2. Switch to Windows notifications. That is what they're for.
  3. One reminder is fine as it lets us order a new license but allow us to select the interval thereafter, remind me again tomorrow, remind me again in seven days, don't remind me again
  4. Honour the remaining time when entering a new license as you do with renewals
  5. Make renewals cheaper than a new license
  6. Switch vendors. We'll see what decisions are made in the next twelve months.

I'll be back the same time next next year to happily report they've fixed the issue.

Have a great year everyone.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

Just to clarify. Remaining days are lost if you enter a new key.

Activate or renew your Norton by using a product key or code.

If you use a product key, the remaining days with your current subscription do not get added to the subscription associated with the new key.

If you use a renewal code, your remaining subscription days are added to the new subscription period.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

I just went through most of that too. However, I stopped at 5 days. I bought a key on Amazon and renewed by subscription. So I was renewed for another year. BUT, I went to Norton online support and told them I lost 5 days of the old license. The support person then added my remaining five days of my old license to my new license.

I suggest the rest of you do the same if you do not renew through Norton and are going to lose days.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

I'm back!!!! Wow! It's been a year already and they've changed nothing. The annoying onslaught of adverts is back.

Two nag screens within a few minutes of each other. Can't wait for the next 30 days.

This one is quite simply unacceptable. There is no reason whatsoever to display a bright orange advert on top of the active window.

This one is a little more subtle and would be fine if it included a drop-down with remind me in x days or don't remind me again.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

We're into the bright red can't miss you adverts. You get privileged access to my computer and I trust you. You've betrayed that trust and I think it's appalling behaviour on your part.

I'll repeat what I see as acceptable solutions from last year.

  1. Allow us to turn them off.
  2. Switch to Windows notifications. That is what they're for.
  3. Allow us to select the interval, remind me again tomorrow, remind me again in seven days, don't remind me again
  4. Honour the remaining time when entering a new license as you do with renewals
  5. Make renewals cheaper than a new license
  6. Switch vendors. We've seen what decisions were made in the previous twelve months.

Looks like I choose the last and least acceptable option.

I'm not going to see this out. They clearly annoy me enough to switch vendors, move on and part ways after many years together.

One more thing i just thought of : Look in Scheduled Tasks of Windows : There should be only one task for Norton, called Norton WSC.
Maybe flipping special offers on and off can help?

I live in Holland, where the rules for adverts are reasonably stringent and I never experienced the orange and red adverts with the special offers to off. Only had the black ones, which appeared only once a week in the last month and then once a day in the last week of that month.

Re: Get rid of the renewal nag notifications

....and they're gone. I gave you a year to fix the issue but I've jumped ship 100% due to these adverts. I have no other concerns with your security suite.

I'm sure there will be some sort of annoying feature in the competitor's product line but I have three years to find out. There were similar complaints in their forum about special offers but they appear to be rectified. Maybe they still listen to their customers. I've removed my personal account details and the competitor's name from the subscription screenshot.

Thanks for your suggestions @hvgsel but nothing helped. I tried a complete remove, clean, reboot, reinstall. I tried toggling the special offers. The help description doesn't mention renewal notifications for that option. I dread to think this is a geo location feature where they purposely target specific countries. The adverts appear on all computers under my subscription. There were some other tasks in task scheduler under the Norton folder but only one copy of the Norton WSC and the other tasks didn't seem related. I tried every setting I could lay my hands on last year but c'est la vie. I'm done.
