Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Further to my threads on this subject 31 Mar 19 & 28 Jun 19, as both closed with no solution.

I don’t know if this is relevant but I went on my PC without starting the Symantec Diagnostic Tool (SDT) to watch Neflix, no other programs opened. On screen appeared a popup advising Norton Security was “Performing a background check” and simultaneously the Antispam OE Hook Launcher popped up. Is one causing the other, however it has not happened before.

I have got fed up initiating the SDT as the AOEHL will not popup.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

All: Paul, I don't see how one of these issue could be causing the other. FWIW!! The OE Hook issue is a long known problem which is entirely a Norton issue. From the sparse information available, Microsoft suggests the issue appears because of bad calls to MAPI (which is proprietary to Microsoft since it has "live calls" to the MAPI server and is network aware) . The antispam feature of Norton is NOT compatible with Windows 10 mail app, IMAP and Exchange accounts are also not supported, as well as POP using SSL. In a nutshell, this feature is worthless, the best solution would be to disable the add-in and set the spam filters your email providers has available. This is the case with me, I have had great results without any annoying popups or messages to date.

The system performing background tasks also SHOULD NOT be happening while the system is being used. Make sure you have your settings per the screenshot below, "Run only at idle time".

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

I found that turning off the Norton AntiSpam function under Settings stopped the "AntiSpam OE Hook Launcher" message boxes from occurring.  Microsoft techs believe the Norton program is reaching out to  Microsoft security software causing this message to occur.  My opinion, Microsoft upgraded something that is no longer compatible with Norton AntiSpam software. Running with the Norton AntiSpam function turned off seems like a dumb thing to do since i am paying for the full program protection.  I am thinking of changing to a different product. By the way this is occurring on two separate computers, one is running Win8.1 and the other is running Win10.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Many thanks Dpitts and SoulAsylum, I have taken up your suggestions.

It looks like the days of Norton Security are numbered in favour of New Norton 360. Will this product feature Anti Spam and still not work with Win 10 & IMAP - There is scant information on this on the Symantec UK website.

Re: Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Norton 360  is basically Norton 360 with a few extra features added. Any existing features are still there.

So the Anti Spam features will still be the same.
