I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

Dears

I use my windows 10 laptop as a Hotspot (built in Hotspot 2.0) software.

I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

However, whenever I switch on Norton VPN on my laptop, the other devices connected to hotspot dont work at all. Norton blocks the connections. The moment I switch off the laptop, it starts working again.

Anyone knows whats wrong ? Why is norton VPN not allowing me to work with my hotspot enabled.

[Edit: Clarified the subject]

Re: I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

In Windows 10 with the Norton VPN enabled, Windows settings shows the Norton Secure VPN as a Public Network. That is the correct way for it to function. If you look in the system tray at the network connection with the VPN enabled it won't show you that any other connection is present.

Withe VPN DISABLED you should see something similar as this in Windows settings. Note: My network is on the Norton Core router WiFi therefore the connection should show as such.

Since I personally don't use HS 2.0, I believe that the Norton VPN will provide tunneling for the network on device it is installed on. That should be the network created when you setup HS 2.0. All your OTHER DEVICES should be connecting to the same.

Hello JB1234. I can't seem to find any Microsoft articles to share on the subject with you, this article from Norton may help.

Thank you SA.

It describes the same problem but it doesn't help.

Re: I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

Yes, I did. The software is fully updated.

Whenever I disconnect VPN, the hotspot works fine. Whenever I enable VPN, the hotspot dies.

I also disabled firewall and realtime protection but that doesn't help either.

I think Norton needs to connect to my machine. However, the chat session with the VPN special team ended twice without any word. I dont understand how will they support and if their support is even realiable.

One more observation - Enabling Norton VPN doesn't create a new connection under "Network And connections" Tab. I think that is the way it works. I dont know why though.

Re: I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

Just to verify, you are starting the VPN FIRST, then adding that connection to the trusted network listing in Norton, then starting the hotspot? Try things in reverse of the article to see if that corrects the issue. I can't see how the hotspot would tunnel through a connection that hasn't already been established. If this corrects the issue we would need to have the article modified by the Norton team to clarify the scenario you are seeing.Trying to gain a clear idea since I cannot physically see what is happening, I don't use hotspot on my end as well going forward.

Re: I have Norton VPN on my laptop. I want all traffic of my computer to go over the VPN.

I tried this (start VPN --> Add network as trusted --> start hotspot) The key is the trusted network remembers itself.

I understand your point about hotspot requiring VPN. However, the VPN doesn't directly appear in the list of hotspot 2.0 window.

I also see that VPN doesn't create a network connection adapter under "Network Connections"

It doesn't work.
