Streaming IOS to Apple TV with VPN Active

I often stream from my iPhone 12 to my TV using an Apple TV.  If my VPN is ON I can access the site and it works fine on my phone but when I try to stream to my TV I get an error and streaming fails.  Any suggestions? Any settings I can adjust on my iPhone or on my Apple TV?

The only thing I can suggest is that Apple TV is not compatible with a VPN. A VPN encrypts your data as it leaves your device and is decrypted by the VPN server before being sent to the destination web site. When you send the information to the Apple TV, the information never gets decrypted.

Thank you.  That makes sense.  It just seems odd to me that some sites stream just fine, and others don't.  And with the VPN off they all work fine.

The site will still stream to your phone. It is just the connection from your phone to the Apple TV that the VPN would disrupt.

You are still skirting the question. If the issue is as you suggest and is encryption and decryption between the phone and the Apple TV why are some sites successful and some are not. Everything makes it to the phone successfully but not everything makes it to the appletv successfully.
