Internet Explorer is officially retired as of June 15, 2022

Like all old things retro they must come to an end. Its way past time for this, anyone still using IE should seriously move onto a different browser ASAP, those wanting to exploit will certainly be looking for IE users when they surf.

It's getting harder and harder to find tubes for my black and white TV.  Seriously, nobody should still be using IE.  But they are.

Indeed they are. Much the same as old, unsupported OS's.

The MS Tech Community article Internet Explorer 11 Desktop App Retirement FAQ was recently updated and has further details about end of support for IE11 on Windows 10.  That FAQ also notes that IE11 will go out of support for both Win 7 SP1 ESU (Extended Security Updates) and Win 8.1 in January 2023.

I'm not sure why, but there are currently no specific end of support dates shown on the MS life cycle product support page for Internet Explorer 11, other than a side note that states that "The Internet Explorer (IE) 11 desktop application ended support for Windows 10 semi-annual channel on June 15, 2022 ".  There is no mention there of either Win 7 SP1 ESU or Win 8.1.

However, MS has posted a separate life cycle product support page at Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 showing that the end of support date for IE11 on the Win 10 semi-annual channel was 14-Jun-2022.

 Microsoft has stated that a future update will totally remove IE, date unspecified. Until then...

As Microsoft further explains, "for supported operating systems, Internet Explorer 11 will continue receiving security updates and technical support for the lifecycle of the Windows version on which it is installed."

"Customers are encouraged to move to Microsoft Edge with IE mode. IE mode enables backward compatibility and will be supported through at least 2029," Redmond added.

To enable IE mode in Edge, you must go to edge://settings/defaultbrowser, toggle on 'Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer,' and restart the web browser.

Just saying...why should "everyday users " continue the risks associated with continued usage of legacy software? Enterprises always get the last bean for paid support. Most of IT compromise comes from that arena in the first place. Worked there, done that, getting corporations off old software is like pulling a camel up hill, both ways. Too many meetings to plan the next meeting...nothing actually gets done. Management is always the reason behind it. Can't give a day of down time for the larger picture of things going forward. Its far past time to move on from IE, seriously!!
