Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

When I turned on my laptop today I saw a large pop-up covering about 3/4th of my screen that indicated it was from Norton saying my Norton Security was updated and gave a link to click to "Continue to Norton"Version said 22.22.5.  Anyone else get this? Is there a new version being released?  From experience Norton does not "automatically" apply updates.  They come through Live Update and applied via Live Update to get the latest version download/update.  The logo and Norton colors made it look legit,  but I do not trust pop-ups nor click on links that I'm not expectng to see/receive.  It referenced Norton Security, Password Manager and I think one other item I can't remember now.  I wish I had taken a picture of it.

I did not click the link and closed out of the pop-up and went to my "about Norton" page and my version is still 22.22.4.11. Then went to Live Updates and nothing was listed as a new product version update.  I rebooted my laptop.  No updates appeared when I manually ran Live  Update several times.   A check for current versions said I have latest version.  History showed no evidence of new product version. Norton has not announced a new product update to my knowledge so I can only assume this is a scam pop-up.  Hopfully it won't appear again. I think it is a phishing attempt to get unsuspecting people to click on their link and take them to fake Norton site.  I didn't click on link so I'm assuming it's not legit.

I don't get a lot of pop-ups like this thankfully!  I think there is a way to shut off Notifications on my HP but I don't remember how.

HP Home Edition-64 bit,Win10 ver 21/H2, Norton 360 Ultimate, ver 22.22.4.11, Chrome Ver. 103.0.5060.66 (current).

Running live update on my side the latest version is still 22.22.4.11, I haven't seen any notification suggesting and update. No release notes have been posted either. More likely than not you saw a browser hijacking attempt. Clear your cookies and caches then restart the browser.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

Received the same popup on my HP PC.  On my screen it covered about 25% of the lower right hand side.

I did not read the contents and did not click any links within it and just closed out as you did. I thought initially it was a marketing popup so I did not bother with it.

In any case from your description I would assume it is not from Norton but would like to hear from others and especially from Norton in this thread.

Same here, just clicked the x and closed out of it. No mention of the product update. It was like described, 25% or the right-hand side of the screen. Would appreciate someone from Norton to respond. If this is a new way to alert product updates, it would have been appropriate to let us know.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

Hi All.
Ran my snail-speed netbook up to speed. Logged on, when the disk activity subsided. The pop-up appeared on the desktop, subsequently disappearing.
Ran up my daily driver, the pop-up appeared and disappeared on Firefox.
Ran all the scans, including the Power Eraser. Nothing found.
I haven't booted-up my backup machine, yet. Could try for the hat-trick ?
I'd guess that it's another Norton Info Screen; that we could all do without. Info overload: no good.

Just curious. Are any of those seeing this pop up part of the EAP track for updates?

No EAP for me.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

I've booted my Windows 11 machine with Norton 360 Deluxe and used both Opera GX and Edge 103 without this popup appearing. I've also rebooted all my Windows machines and done likewise with the same browsers, the popup in questions hasn't appeared. EAP is not installed, all installs are "traditional channel". Version 22.22.4.11 is installed on all the eleven Windows 10 and one Windows 11 machines. I WILL of course monitor running machines for the issue appearing.

Edited: Someone should get a screenshot of this when / if it reappears for the community to see and review.

Fired-up my back-up machine. Left alone for a while to churn away.
On logging-on, this is what you get. the pop-up was on the desktop. Alt-PRTSC, active window capture.
"RunLiveUpdatenow" links to UI Liveupdate, runs OK. PU disappears.Be interested in a correct answer, right or wrong. Ho-hum ?

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

No EAP for me.   I'm on Norton 360 version 22.22.4.11. The screenshot above is what I received except for me it indicated version 22.22.5 not released yet.  For ITMA it shows 22.22.4.   I usually ignore these pop-ups but this one was big on my screen and hard to ignore.  Upon rebooting it did not return but I think Norton needs to respond if this push came from them either way.... yes/no.   Not clicking any link in any pop-up, I don't care who it's from.

Not an EAP member.
My version of the pop-up displays.
It depends on which version of Norton you're running ?

I should have been more specific, I am interested in seeing the popup described by the OP, the one where it mentions 22.22.5?

Appears to archive any previous version issues ?

All the machines I've had time to update so far today are on new version 22.22.6.10, N360 and Norton Security Ultra. Thus far, the pop-up being referenced has not appeared. IMA: In the planted desktop.ini that was created the following line is noted - muis.dll,-601, this references shared component(s) that appears to have been removed.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

Same comments as above postings - my pop-up mentioned 22.22.5, normally versions would have another number following the 5. This afternoon, must of received MUI files for 22.22.6.10. No postings in Norton Product Updates page so no clue as to what has been changed. Be nice for Norton to inform users FIRST before issue unknown updates. We have received NO notifications for new releases since early last year, now we do have something appear which is totally meaningless & grossly confusing. Sort yourselves out Norton PLEASE.

That doesn't account for the oddity of the pop-up's coming with random update versions. They're extremely misleading in every sense of the word.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

SoulAsylum, that is the exact pop-up I received on my laptop screen that I x'd out of.   Norton has yet to comment why we are receiving this popup with confusing version dates differing from what we all had installed, then today an  update to 22.22.6.10.  Is this pop-up  coming from Norton or not.  Would like to see Norton respond.   I never click a link in a pop-up.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

I guess we can assume now that this popup did come from Norton but the question remains in my mind as to what the purpose was and what the message actually was telling us to do.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

Yes xjoex, I agree with you it most likely came from Norton.   Norton really needs to address this because it has been confusing since the pop-up did not match the version we all had installed and,  we do not receive our product updates via pop-ups. Now they have released 22.22.6.10 which is different from the 22.22.5 in pop-up.   Maybe it was an Ad or an oops, but there isn't a 22.22.5 version for Norton 360 and that is what is confusing.  I think Norton should comment to clear up the questions/confusion why it was pushed out.

@Matt_Boucher, see SoulAsylum's screenshot.  That is the same pop-up I received which referenced Norton Security 22.22.5.    I have Norton 360 Ultimate.

FWIW!! This is on its face appearing to be the left hand not talking to the right, right in the pre-release of a new product version update. Even still, not following those links was the smart move on the part of everyone having seen it. Hoping Matt or one of the Admins can give us clearer insight about what we are seeing.

Re: Pop-Up From Norton360 Saying "Auto Update" to 22.22.5??

Had no pop-ups yet. Version 22.22.4.11 released early May this year, I actually installed on 8th May. Thread relating to not receiving notifications ( https://community.norton.com/en/forums/not-receiving-emails-product-serv... ) refers although 'NOTICATION' would be 2 months out of date. Likewise previous pop-up for 22.22.5 was for an update that did not exist. What is going on at Norton?
