Fake windows defender scam

Both yesterday and today the same apparent scam has accrued. I was online using Microsoft edge when a message appeared saying Windows defender had detected a virus and my computer was disabled. It gave a number to call Microsoft support who could help me. I tried closing Edge, opening Norton 360. Nothing worked the message just kept pulsing. By holding down the power button the computer did shut down. When I restarted everything seemed fine. I ran Norton power eraser which did a scan and showed no threats found. I then ran a full scan with the same results. The same thing happened today with the same results.

I'm running Windows 11 on a Samsung surface go. I don't know the version number but when I update it tells me I am running the latest version of 360. I never got a error message or anything from Norton.

These fake support message pages are usually caused by malformed ads on a web site you are visiting. Norton does not usually warn of web page redirects because many web sites use them for legitimate reasons. Norton uses them all the time. 

You can ensure you have no infections by running a full system scan with your Norton 360. I also would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium/

To help stop this kind of redirect you can install an ad blocker extension in your browser.
