PLZ Advise, VPN Setup?

So, an Old Guy luddite (81 years old), who often times is IT challenged (essentially an Analog Guy living in the Digital Age) needs advice regarding secure VPN.

I used to have Norton Internet Security (Norton Security Deluxe) plus MBAM as AV software programs on my HP laptop, yet now that I have Norton 360 I DO want to avail myself of more CYBERSECURITY.

How best to get started (making the VPN happen)?

I would appreciate input from the GOOD PEOPLE on this Forum who already use VPN, hence know how to set it up.

I THANK YOU in advance for ALL of your HELP and advice and wish you a "Happy Thanksgiving!" ;o)

I kept starring at the drop down menu next to Secure VPN?

It's the day before Thanksgiving, hence there is NO hurry whatsoever regarding a response...

1.) DO I know that the VPN works because it says under Secure VPN, "Your connection is protected?"

2.) Is there another way to test if the VPN works?

3.) Under SETTINGS should I customize it, and if so, how? Ad Tracker Blocking seems like something that should be ON by default, yet its NOT!

My apologies if, said above, questions sound extremely naive.

Hello again.

#1 - If the VPN icon in your system tray has a green tick in it when active you are protected

#2 - There shouldn't be another means to test if it works, the notifications will tell you all you need to know.

#3 - See screenshot for reference. The VPN has to be enabled at least once to be able to enable Ad Trackers features.

Dave my #1 above was based on my stand alone VPN, I wasn't at my Norton 360 machine at the time. I will boot it up and check for better accuracy ASAP. My apologies.

Following up with the last post. The VPN in the Norton 360 suite doesn't have a green check indicator as the stand alone version does.
