Norton stops responding during smart scan, have to reboot to get pc running again.

Windows 11, all drivers and downloads are up to date.  During smart scan Norton stops working, never completes scan. Running smart scan again, stops working at a different number of items scanned. Hourglass figure appears each time Norton stops working, (even after 20 minutes, hourglass still shows).  Clicking on page, page goes gray, wants to send data to Microsoft.  Upon rebooting, double clicking Norton icon is not responsive for quite some time. 

Ran Norton Power Eraser, NO Virus/Malware detected.
