Norton 360 seems to block Network WiFi signon

We travel a lot and Hotels will require you to log into their Networks. Twice this week, I've run into two motels where once you select their desired Network name and try to activate it, things kind of stop and all you see is a blank screen. The Icon on the PC for that WiFi shows connected but the detail indicates some action is necessary. That action is filling in the password for that network. Short of uninstalling all of Norton, just to get in the first time, I haven't found a solution. I  have disabled Auto-Protect and SmartFirewall with no success.  I even tried going into Norton's settings and turning off all of them and that didn't help.

I've even contacted the WiFi support staff at the hotel and on occasion, they gave me either another hidden network that didn't require a password or they gave me a URL String that was able to pull up the screen so I could enter the password and complete the connection.

Have others experienced this problem and how did they resolve it....

Turn off the VPN.

Thanks for your suggestion and although I didn't mention it above, I already had thought of that and it was turned off also. Any other idea?

Have you gone into your Windows settings under Network and Internet?

There are many settings there to check and play with that might resolve your issue. For example you might try resetting all your network adapters to factory.

That is worth a try but I'm not sure it'll help. One of the support staff had me key in splash.skyadmin.io and that got me to the sign-in screen, with the same settings. I've had others supply similar strings from other support staff and none are the same.

Thanks and still looking for more suggestions.

Re: Norton 360 seems to block Network WiFi signon

The reason this thread drew my interest is that I have had similar problems with sign in at several hotels and resorts.

In my cases there was a sign in required but no password was needed. I was presented with a screen that said click here to sign in and when I did I had issues because my VPN was on. Shutting off the VPN allowed me to get to the page that said "sign in completed".

The VPN was somehow interfering with the process but of course I never understood why I needed to sign in when no password was required. Seemed like very bad programming on the part of the hotel IT staff. So maybe it is the screen you initially get when you try to sign in and it never reaches the splash.syadmin.io link that you refer to in your post. Keying in the link in your browser gets you there. And to think of it maybe you might try clearing your browser and then signing in.

In any case if you do find a resolution please post back as I would be interested to know.

Re: Norton 360 seems to block Network WiFi signon

This happened to me again today but I have a small notebook that I figured I could try to get on to the network. Sure enough, the notebook was able to get on and I noticed that the URL it used was http://www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect when the password screen popped up the URL changed again but I didn't care because I got the screen I needed..

I started to do some Google searches and reading on this www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect with a lot of well-known problem areas. The more I read about resetting this and resetting that, I decided to go to the Edge browser settings because when I was given the character string from the network support, the connection would be completed. Edge has a Reset Setting which I used that will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also turn off all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.

I won't swear up and down that this would have fixed the problems I've had for the last 3 days but it sure did fix today's problems. It did reset my home page, but it did keep my old entries so all I had to do was reselect them. Same with search engines.  I haven't run across any extensions or cookie problems but that will be a cheap price to have to pay. Only time will tell if this helped or hampered my sign-in problem.

I want to thank all that gave suggestions. All of them were useful.

Re: Norton 360 seems to block Network WiFi signon

The fix that I used yesterday, didn't solve the problem I had today. Everything I did, didn't work, except for the phone number that the Hotel gave me to call AT&T internet support about my problem.  The person I talked to had me do a command prompt so he could determine the IPV4 address which he used on his end to do his magical work. Once he was done, he asked me to bring up a browser. I first went back and selected the network name, then brought up my Edge browser and everything worked fine.

Again, I didn't really have to do anything to my laptop, although I already had. I didn't mention to him anything about doing anything to my laptop, except that it was a laptop (because he asked laptop or cell phone). He did want to know that it is an HP Laptop so I gave him the IPV4 address. Whatever magical work he did was all on his end. This doesn't resolve my problem tomorrow when I am at another location, and this happens again.

The command he requested was to issue a CMD, then IPCONFIG/ALL. This showed him the IPV4 Address. Then he wanted my name and room number, which later, I realized, he need that information to fake his system out to think he was me because that was the information I needed to log in with my cell phone to that network.

Re: Norton 360 seems to block Network WiFi signon

A workaround I found was that my Samsung Phone could connect to the WiFi network so I just made my phone a hotspot. Then I connected my laptop to my phone and then my laptop had everything as if it was connected to the sites network.
