Driver updates from Norton after updating drivers with Dell

Norton insists after every scan that my computer needs updated drivers.  I just recently update all the drivers from the manufacturer. Is this just another one of many  attempts to get more money out of the customer?  I tried Norton's anti track software and it was useless and so I cancelled that. There is always an attempt to purchase something new; it just never stops.  What has been the experience of other Norton customers with the driver updater?  Is it worth it or is this just another scare tactic?

Re: Driver updates from Norton after updating drivers with Dell

Driver updater is mostly bricking computers, a select few are escaping that calamity though. My personal recommendation is stay away from DU. As you are already getting your drivers and firmware from Dell, continue that path. Microsoft also works alongside the OEM's to deliver quality updated drivers to Windows as well. The failure rate for those are extremely low, stay with the safe method you are using. Norton Driver Updater may, at some point become a useful utility. In its current state it is not ready for prime time.

Re: Driver updates from Norton after updating drivers with Dell

Would this be anything to with Software Updater, as I have found out, self installed a driver, luckily redundant but replaced current driver with outdated driver. Thought Software Updater was a separate process so don't know why notifications after a normal scan.

Anything other than an actual Norton process as those mentioned above needs turning off, Windows updates Windows process, some apps install & update their own drivers, that's the way it should be. Don't see MS & apps interfering with the running of Norton.

“ Show us a little bit of how widespread usage of driver updater is helping us win the fight for cybersecurity. ” I bought driver updater and I’ve been testing it out for since it was offered for purchase. Any time it wants to update my drivers I let it. I will say at face value it seems a little bit unnecessary, as I am led to believe I get driver updates from dell update, support assist, and windows updates. If I’ve learned anything in life, making decisions on observations based on face values is poor judgment. Driver experts at Norton who are designing and maintaining the Norton Driver Updater app, please give us some examples of what good work you are doing. Give us cybersecurity vulnerability examples for why driver updater app is relevant for customers. Show us a little bit of how widespread usage of driver updater is helping in the fight for cybersecurity. Give us a few real examples of that illustrate reasons why driver updater is pushing so many driver updates. Give us an interview with the some of the programmers that are responsible for making small and frequent improvements to driver code at Norton.

Quite a few examples are on this Forum & community pages. You are safe from cyber attacks when running Driver Updater renders your computer not bootable as many user have found - no chance of getting attacked in that instance. All these Norton 'gimmicks' are repeats of what Windows & app updates already do & they do the job better than Norton. Perhaps Norton should put their own house in order first.

Give em a chance, man. Maybe they are running through decades old code with a fine tooth comb. Or it could be that regularly switching between functioning drivers reveals vulnerabilities or else improvements to logic that have sat stagnant for years. Driver updater could be helping future proof our software that communicates with our hardware. I’m not saying it’s impossible that driver updater is a cash grab. I’d like to offer the benefit of the doubt. Give the developers a chance to show us what they’re doing with driver updater installing different drivers every day.
