Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Here is the login page for my bank: https://consumer.renasant.online-banking-services.com/LCDDigitalOneConsu...

You will note that it is not a split login and appears completely normal.  I have a username and password stored in NPM for it.  Whenever I go to the page the username fills but NPM insists on generating a new secure password.  Every time!  I have to go to NPM, manually copy the password, and paste it into the password field.  NPM refuses to autofill the password it has saved for this site.  I have deleted the entire entry from NPM and started over, changed to the NPM generated password, and everything else I can think of but it still does not autofill.  It happens in both the Chrome and Edge browsers.  I have deleted cookies, cleared the cache, etc. etc.

This is the only site out of hundreds that I use that behaves like this.  There must be something on that page that is triggering this bug/behavior in NPM.  It is VERY ANNOYING.  HELP!

fwiw ~ curious:
1) have you tried browser built-in password manager (as test) to see if autofill works from browser password manager...as test.

2) is Login here the same "Renasant Bank" Login?

Hello. In Edge, check for the cookies Edge is saving. I'm using Opera GX ( Chromium based ) with Chrome NPWM extension. These are the cookies being presented on Opera. The PWM extension version I have is Version 8.0.5.106, this is the latest version. What version do you have installed?

I wouldn't think that you'd be using a VPN while logging in, however, in the event you are disable the VPN as that will cause issues.

You may also want to sign out within the PWM extension, close your vault. Reopen your browser and sign in again to recheck.

To date I am not seeing any issues as you are with any sites I visit.

The Edge built-in password manager works as it should.

I think your link is to the old site.  The link I included in the original post is the only one I can login through.

My extension in Edge is Version 8.0.5.106

I have tried it with and without my VPN enabled.  Makes no difference.

I have deleted all cookies.  Makes no difference.

I have closed and reopened the vault.  Makes no difference.

Manually assign yourself a user name and password in NPM for the banking site.  Then go to the site like you are going to login.  See if it will place your name and pw into the blanks or if it prompts you to generate a new secure password.

Yep, which is why I posted the actual login page it takes you to.  If you are a customer, you can go directly to the login page.  That is where NPM is failing.  It will not autofill the password.  It always tries to generate a new password.

IF, after you login from the second page, it does the two-factor authentication if it doesn't find the cookie.  The problem is, again, NPM will not autofill with your saved password.

Well, I don't know what to tell ya.  That IS the login page for the bank.  If I go through the process from the bank home page, personal banking, input my username, that IS the page I am taken to.  It is also the page NPM refuses to fill with my saved password and always prompts me for a new one.

Thanks for the effort!

Whatever the login page is.  I think users need to see Norton Password Manager button in User ID/Password field.

Sorry, I do not know how to escalate your issue to Norton Password Manager team.

Maybe, try "Report Issue" from Norton Password Manager address bar button - hamburger drop down menu.

Maybe, try Norton Official Support.

That is the two-factor identification of course.  It makes no difference if I do it and receive the cookie or not.  Please understand, I can paste my actual password in the box and login successfully.  The whole problem is that NPM refuses to insert my saved password in the box, it insists on generating a new secured password.  Since NPM refuses to work properly, I end up manually logging into the site.

This thread is very curious and has peeked my senses.

bjm_ was prompted to receive a 2FA code thru SMS for a non existent account at this bank. What possible conclusion can you come to other than the bank website security and login process is very flawed. Where are they sending that text? To who's phone?

I understand that NPM does not autofill the fields but that is true for other sites and apps that I have used. It all depends on how the receiving program is designed. These things can be worked out by Norton on a case by case basis but the problems with the login process at this bank go far beyond Norton not autofilling.

I would not trust entering my credentials when the logic of the processing program is this bad. Who knows what else lurks in the background.

Yes, I used the feedback.

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

If you use a bogus or non-existent username on that first screen it gives you a bogus set of telephone numbers to choose from.  If you use a legit username it gives you a list of the phone numbers on file in your account.  I agree that it is poorly done.  It should just return a message saying the username is invalid.  It really isn't dangerous, just poorly done.

Funny part is the digital banking itself, once you get into your account is works very well.  I have had and still have several bank and brokerage accounts.  Of them all Renasant is at or near the best!

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Logging in to my bank uses a different system using a card reader. Years ago, it used to be similar to any other site log-in, user name, password but Norton did not offer option to save details into NPWM. After you deleted entry in NPWM, next time you try to log-in, can you over-ride Norton prompt, manually input your actual user name/password & successfully log-in. NPWM should ask if you wish to save, click OK which is the normal way it saves a new site  password. Log out, close browser & try to log-in again and see what happens - should be no need to use Password Generator which is only a suggestion, it cannot change the password stored by your bank. Only way to change bank password (or any other site log-in) would be actually inside your Bank App or from 'forgot password'.

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Just a thought. We seem to have two URL's - 'https://www.renasantbank.com/digital-banking' & 'https://consumer.renasant.online-banking-services.com/LCDDigitalOneConsu...'. I think NPWM, in reality, does not use the full URL but only the first xxx characters, as these are different does it treat these as completely separate web pages & URL's?. I have one or two sites that have more than one log-in page with slightly different full URL's depending which route I take to get there but as long the first xxx characters match, you can still log-in OK. In the examples above they would not match so is this a possible issue?

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Well, really, that is what my problem is after all.  NPM is not filling or offering to fill the password field even though it has a saved password for it.  Once I enter the password by pasting it manually and log into the site, NPM asks me if I want to save it.  I answer yes...but next time I go to the login page we are back to square one.

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

For NPM to recognise a login web page, the code for that page needs to have tags for the username and password boxes. If a site uses a tag other than username or password, Norton has no way of knowing that this is a login page, so has no reason to fill in or prompt for the login information.  Some sites may do this on purpose as an additional security measure to ensure it is the correct user signing in and not someone that gained access to the computer, then using a password manager to access an account.

Not saying this is the case here, but it is a possibility.

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

No doubt the page is different somehow.  It is interesting to me that NPM recognizes it as a password when it offers to generate a secure one and it also offers to save the ones I input manually.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

My credit card log-in page does not offer to save to NPWM nor does the NWPM icon appear, this is a two page log-in system, first page is your user reference, 'Next' takes you to another page where you have to input a couple of characters from your favourite word, banking uses a card reader system similar to receiving a text code but in 2 blocks of 4 characters. Both have no way of saving to browser password manager or to NPWM and both have a time limit of completing actual log-in.

ewooten's  bank login method seems a bit too simple for something as important as a bank's log-in.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Probably its on but have you enabled, under the hamburger menu in Norton PWM extension:

Automatically show autofill suggestions when site loads?

Just a question to understand better:
Does NPWM ask to change the Password or does it treat it as a new site where new PW info needs to be stored?

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

With it turned on, it autofills the username and throws up the "Generate secure password" box when I go to the site.

To answer your second question ... I don't know what NPM thinks.  Obviously, it recognizes it has an entry for the site but instead of filling the password field it insists on generating a new one.  If I click on the NPM browser icon it shows the entry for the bank properly.  From there I have to copy the saved password and manually paste it into the password field.  Once I do that and log in, NPM offers to save the "new" credentials.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

It is what it is mgirons.  The security of one bank or another is not relevant to solving the problem here.  If NPM is not working properly on a site, be it a bank or any other place, that is what needs to be addressed.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

NPWM does get confused sometimes. I have mobile & cable TV from same company. Each log-in page URL is completely different with basically only the providers name the same. Logging into mobile NPWM only brings up mobile log-in details. Logging into cable TV account gives two options shown with (2) in the NPWM icon. Clicking on icon shows one for mobile & one for Cable TV. Selecting mobile when in Cable log in brings up password incorrect. Only common items are provider & user name (email address). Very strange.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

I'm not sure if this will help or if it's been tried, I got lost in translation above. My bad. My example:
I used to use this website: https://subscene.com/

When I try to login, Norton didn't work because the second page that loads for the login is actually: https://identity.jeded.com/core/login?signin=

So in the NPM for the site stored password where it says: "Website / App", I have to put the "https://identity.jeded.com/core/login?signin=" URL.
Before when it didn't work "Website / App" field had this URL: https://subscene.com/

So in essence, the second page that pops up with the password field, copy and paste that URL in your password field where it says: "Website / App" and see if that helps.

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

Thanks.  The address I am using in NPM is the "second" page.  As I have tried to explain, it really doesn't matter if you start from the home page or just go directly to the login page.  That is the page where the home page directs you to every time if you have a valid username.  For example, I can skip the home page and go directly to the login page and still log in successfully by manually entering my password.  Norton refuses to fill the password box on the login page with my saved password.

拍手0

Re: Password manager tries to generate a new password every time I visit my bank site.

I have turned off 'Open Vault' prompts, I have sites that you cannot save to NWPW, but prompt was annoying by covering the password & user fields, therefore no log-in page auto-fills automatically as it used to. I click on the Norton icon to the right, this brings up a dropdown 'relevant log-ins', you then have to click on that to get user name & password to fill in. I have two different account for a provider, in this case, Norton gives you the two options as it used to do as before, select the one you want, choosing the wrong one brings up 'password wrong' message. My water company account has now a new internal interface, the old site URL is 28 characters long, the new 500 long, the only common factor appears to be the company name but logging in uses same same NPWM details and logs-in to both with no issues. As above, clicking on the Norton icon to the right brings up only the one option, select & can log into both, the old & the new versions.
