Detailed documentation for Norton Products

Did Symantec thought about adding to their products detailed documentation of them, especially for advanced users or for enterprise? Such doc except basic user guide could include accurate description of every specific product's module, ie. how exactly works SONAR or Reputation Scan, how to best setup Symantec's product options, so it could work efficiently and secure system well also .etc. Of course in this case Symantec would choose how many information they want include and for which products ( not to disclose too much details ), and i think that access for those detailed docs should have only customers. Since NIS 2010 open beta i liked Symantec's software and i don't hide the fact that i'm interested in that, how those apps works.

What do You think about?

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

As I know on the boxed version's CD there is a manual (pdf) of the Norton products, that has many details of the products.

Unfortunately these are not available in the downloa versions, and on the Symantec site there's only a very very little part of it as a downloadable manual.

So downloadable manuals would be good solution.

Lol! Norton are not for enterprise users . Additionally , Norton has always been aimed at users who are completely "stupid" when it comes to computers . That is why Norton is so automated , includes that good support and is so easy to install and use

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

Norton are strictly consumer solutions , NOT corporate products !!!

Norton are made for home users and small offices for up-to-10 computers ! No server OS support !

Symantec's corporate products when it comes to security/antivirus protection are called Symatec Endpoint Protection and technically they are completely different from Norton

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

Ok, so lets make it clear: prefered detailed docs for Norton products.

I think that Symantec Enterprise Solutions have expanded manuals for business customers, so let's put them aside for now.

Anyway you should know what's going on.

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

This is a good one for discussion. Assume that we are all talking about Norton consumer products. We do have many of these materials, but I'd like to hear which add the most value for most users. Replication of the documentation that you get on the CD? Quick start guides? Tutorials? In product help? Where should we focus?

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

I am concerned primarily on:

 - exhaustive technical manuals describing the Symantec's software architecture (i.e. what algorithms were used in described module; diagrams, charts or tables [like in some of these Windows 7 Technical Whitepapers ] describing: precisely usage of hardware resources while doing some work and what is exactly going on while i.e. scanning directory - how the file is being prepared for scanning, loaded into memory, are files on scanned partition being fragmented and how it affects the HDD or CPU usage),

- tips how to administrate production OS or Symantec software to make them efficiently co-operating together,

- tutorials about testing Symantec products (most efficient and comprehensive testing methods for beta software tester-volunteers, to detect hidden bugs);

Errr, i think that's all for now. I know that probably I require too much, but the modern software companies should publish such accurate tech docs (like i.e. MS made their K(nowledge)B(ase) ot TechNet resources for IT professionals).

Thanks for interest guys  :)

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

Here are my toughts on it: I would like to download the same manuals from your page what are on the CDs. I think for the download customers should get the same manual, not that 20 page ""long"" thing that is now downloadable.... In the manuals I think there should be all/most of the/most used features' step-by-step instuctions, eg. how to configure a manual firewall rule, scan exclusions, etc. Plus a little description of all the options in the settings, like what is Office scan, e-mail scan, etc. Here you can write that too that how they work. And if the PDF is not so big (like 3-5MB), you can put it in the installer package as well, and during the install creat a start menu icon for it as well.

Yep, this also.

Re: Detailed documentation for Norton Products

I'd also like to see a comprehensive manual available for download. Personally, I see no reason why people who download the product should be treated any differently from those who purchased the boxed version. Also, I think it would help deal with some of the confusion many users have as to just what a specific feature of the software does and what to expect when they use that feature.

Actually, I'm gobsmacked that this even has to be discussed. It's such a no brainer. Put the darn thing up and get it over with. Trust me, you'll feel better for it.
