Scan timer

I know you can go to history and find out how long a scan took, but it would be kind of nice to have an active timer running during the scan so you can see how long it is taking without having to wait for it to finish. That way if you have to pause it for any reason, you can pause it without having to guess how far into the scan it is.

Re: Scan timer

After completing a scan, I would like Norton to display how long the scan took in the Results Summary.

Since 2009 Norton likes to boast how good it is. ;)

Most users probably don't realize how fast the scanner is.

It's common for people to leave the computer while something is scanning. If there is a problem with their system (infection, incompatibility, bug etc.) causing Norton to suddenly start taking longer to scan most won't realize, as I'm sure they don't look at the history.

Re: Scan timer

I like this idea. Hopefully it will be considered and implemented into Norton 2011.

EDIT: Of course, it would be a little difficult to create a timer that is exact, but below every scan there should be an "approximate time" that the scan will finish in.

Re: Scan timer

@ AliasEx, you can go into history and scroll down till you find Full Scan Results and it will tell you how long it took to do a full scan. Like mine I did today took 45 minutes and it scanned 550,000 files. I really would like to see them put a timer in as the scan is running so we can see it though.

Re: Scan timer

Thanks BrandonAL23 but I know about that.

Displaying a timer while a scan is running is a good idea but I personally don't care for it.

When a scan is finished the results are shown. I care more for seeing how long the scan took there.

Re: Scan timer

Interesting Idea, do you prefer to see the exact time passed while scanning or what percentage of the scan is complete? A percentage would give you better indication on how far along the scan you are

Re: Scan timer

hmm, percentage does sound good, that would be awesome. Either one of those is fine with me.

Re: Scan timer

No problem, Athena. it is such a nice thing to know that there is a company that listens to its customers.

Re: Scan timer

I'd like to see a percentage completed, too.  One of my recent full scans reached 4,400,000 items scanned after running for 60 hours, before a power outage halted it.  Also, I'd like to see the automatic full scans remember where they got to before the user moving the mouse interrupted that automatic run, so that the next automatic run does not have to start over at the beginning of the list of files, and therefore be unlikely to ever finish scanning an especially large number of files for a frequently active user.  For a few months, none of the other full

scans of that machine have reached completion - something I finally noticed a few days ago.

Showing the percentage done could be an option to allow those who do not want to see it to turn it off.

Re: Scan timer

Some products have both a percentage and a timer, I wonder if Symantec could put both of those into NIS and NAV 2011.

You can to do not split any films to hundreds and hundreds of separate files (.avi type or .rar parts) it is also possible to see in one-part file))))

now switching to theme...

yes, percentage of scanning is good idea and probably best of all it must be calculated as scanned files to all files quantity. (another ways: by scanned files size to all files size (+:big files (archives) are scanning longer, -: big multimedia files are scanning very fast) and there some way to determine file types and possible scan time taken depended on file size of this type. all of this are complicated, greatly more resourse usage and not super at all)) )

Re: Scan timer

I'd like to see some form of scan progress indication. Whether it's an exact number of a percentage doesn't really matter to me. Also, this might be something to consider to the Windows Vista/Seven sidebar/desktop gadget.

What am I thinking about right now?

Re: Scan timer

Can't agree more, it's very annoying not knowing how long a scan will take!!! Can't be that hard to put a statusbar on this, can it!?!?!?!?
