Percent (%) Indicator Keeps Changing, How much storage do I have

I'm a new user of Norton Online Backup and have a couple of questions.

I've done a couple of small backups to gain an understanding of the operation and have verified that I can retrieve my files.  Now I've started a major backup of 15GB and accept that the time to complete may be days given the modest upload speeds of 0.9 Mbps.  My question pertains to the percent (%) indicators on the backup home page.  After running for 20 hours it indicated 48% and now it seems to have changed to 12% transferring.  I don't recall if the 48% had been labeled "transferring" or something else.  The backup had not been cancelled and in fact the "log" indicates that the backup I started is still in progress.  Are there different "stages" of the backup process, each with it's own %(percent) indicator? I'd appreciate some clarification.

Next question: When I purchased this backup package for 25GB of storage I was unable to download the software.  An online Norton tech had me download the 30 day trial version and then convert to the paid version with my key.  My account now indicates that I have 30GB of storage.  Will this revert to 25GB after 30days have expired?

Re: Percent (%) Indicator Keeps Changing, How much storage do I have

Hi Joebike,

During the backup, the available space indicator may not be accurate. Files stored through Online Backup may be split across multiple Symantec servers. It is possible that going from 48% to 12% is a result of the server balancing or transferring the file (or segments of the file) to another server. I am not certain, but that would be my presumption.  If you log in to your Norton Account after the backup is completed, that should be the most accurate display of file space.

When using the trial version of the software, entering your product key should remove the "Trial" status. I don't see why your account would show 30GB instead of 25GB. You would have to call tech support and have them check your account to confirm the amount of space available on your account. To be safe, I wouldn't go over 25GB even if it says you have 30GB.

Hope that helps!
