how to completely uninstall Ghost 15?

Because of issues I've decided to remove Ghost 15 from my Vista Home Premium system.

I had error messages upon initially installing the program. Today while using the Windows uninstall program (Control Panel \ Programs and Feature)  I had an error message.  (Error - Failed to have success Uninstall VSSProvider function in MSIUnstall VSS program function.)

So, just be complete, is there an additional program to completely remove any trace of Ghost?

(The issues for those of you interested - I would receive an error message 5 percent of the way through an incremental backup and would be forced to rename the backup folder and then perfrom a complete backup.  Today after attempting to perfrom a complete backup the system hung at 95 percent.  I have since learned that my issues are common to Ghost ... and I am tired of wasting my time.)

Hi,

Have you tried the Norton Removal Tool?  found here:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

It too may give you some error messages since the uninstall was not without problems.

WARNING:  This tool will remove all of your Norton programs. If you are using the identity safe do save your data BEFORE you do anything else.

One other suggestion I have is for you to run Malwarebytes free scanner found here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

It's Norton compatible so keep it on the desktop and run it from time to time. It's a nice compliment and does find things that aren't viruses but are a PITA.

Sorry we can't help you get Ghost working correctly. I use it and swear by it. [Yes, I have sworn at it a time or two but discovered that the problem was user error.]

Keep us in the loop. We'll be her when you need us

Re: how to completely uninstall Ghost 15?

Dick, I'd like to thank you for that link ... but I can't.  The link you gave, even when I highlighted the part that wasn't a link', didn't work.

I was forced to use Google and went to https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&lg=english&ct=us to attempt to remove all traces of Ghost 15.

The removal tool hung at  about 60 percent of the way through, I believe it was working on MSI removal ... or something like that.

I was forced to use Task Manager to stop the removal process.

I'm now back to using Window's Backup and Restore Center.  While this has fewer bells and whistles, it works.  To be clear, I had issues when installing the program many months ago.  There was a constant error message ... and I know I posted here at that time.  I loved Norton Desktop back under Windows 3.1, but have had nothing but problems with Ghost.

Re: how to completely uninstall Ghost 15?

Dave,

Sorry about the link - just tried it and got nowhere.

Try this one. It's Ghost specific;

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?ct=us&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&docid=kb20080710134020EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

Do you have any other backup or copy software installed? There has to be a reason why Ghost won't install and an even better one as to shy it won't uninstall. If you're willing to invest some additional time and effort I'd like to see if we can get to the bottom of this one. I expect that the findings will be useful to others as well.

Thanks

PS: have you done and scans with Malwarebytes' free scanner or Superantispyware's free scanner?
