Auto- Protect won't turn on
I previously had Norton 360 (v.5 or6? purchased last October) installed on my 2006 WinXP computer with no problem. Subscribtion expired so I just bought the new Norton 360 Standard thinking that I could use product key to renew subscription. When I realized that it would not let me renew since it was considered different program. I contacted Norton via online chat and allowed the tech to remotely remove old Norton via add/ remove panel and then Install new Norton 360. All seemed to be OK, ran live update, full scans etc. Nothing detected. As usual.
Then a couple of days later while shutting the computer down, ccvsvhst.exe hangs and won't close properly, widows shuts down. Upon restart, Nortorn Starts, but tparts of the program aren't on such as Auto- Protect, Anti spyware, and Email scanning (which is OK since I turn those options off myself anyhow sice I dont use Outlook). Clicking "Fix Now" turned them on and all was back to normal even after several shut downs and start ups of computer.
Today the ccsvchst.exe hangs at shutdown, window eventually shuts down and on restart it Auto Protect and Antispyware arent on.... Intrusion Prevention (which is the firewall , right) is still running. I can run Live UPdate and get definitions . BUT, it cant auto fix the problems, I cant turn them on via the setting and have the changes apply.
While trying to let Norton fix the problem Norton screen popped up stating something about it detected and error and started to check installtion files, then stated that it couldn't auto fixe and gave the error code 3048, 3 . This only happened once though.
So , as of Now Norton will start but Auto Protect, Antispyware and other parts will not turn "on" and all of this occured after the new install of Norton 360 when the ccsvchst.exe would hang at shutdown.
So, what do I need to do now besides to start backing up my files manually :)
Does this problem have something to do with my computer or the installation?
Do I need to reinstall? What is the best way to do this? I have seen I few but don't know which to do at this point.
Tried using the online support early this AM but got a message thata stated that they were not available for chat support at that time , even though it says 24 hr
Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
