NIS.exe stopped working

I saw this error message in the Reliability Monitor:

"NIS.exe stopped working"

The time stamp on the message shows it ocurred during the last Windows updates.

I never noticed any problem as the Windows updates required a restart, which I guess fixed the problem.

Just a little concerned that a Windows update could stop NIS.exe working.

Norton does a very good job of protecting itself and tries to prevent anything from making changes to its internal parts. It is possible that the update got too close to something and it shut down to prevent contamination. The reboot sorted things out and now both are happy and playing well together [as they should]

Keep watch on things for a day or two and if nothing else happens assume all is well.

I don't know if this is relevant but Microsoft has just pulled one of it's updates again ! to do with Outlook...Of course, it may have nothing to do with your problem....

Hi Davec33,

From the description, it doesn't seem likely you'll be able to reproduce this issue to get us some logs. I've sent you a Private Message with an upload location for a Full Memory or Kernel Dump. If you have either of those for this crash, that would be appreciated.

Is there anything that you could add that might help us reproduce this issue? I'm guessing you're running NIS -- did you update from NIS 20.4? How exactly? Are there any other products installed that might affect this issue? Thanks.

Hi Tony,

Issue is not reproduceable, and only occured once during the last Windows update.

My computer is set to produce a Minidump, but I checked that folder and it was empty.

The only other clue I can give you is that one minute before the error I see this in the event log:

Yes, running

I updated from NIS 20.4 by going to "Support" and "New version check"
