Norton DNS

I can't get norton dns working on my windows 7 64b. I do everything perfect, but when i try it out, it says, Your computer is not currently using Norton DNS.. Any ideas? I'm running Comodo FW 5.10, could that being messing things up?

I'm using the same Comodo on my XP machine and Norton DNS works fine.

I did cmd ipconfig /all and it shows im using the dns

I've even flushed dns also.

Preferred DNS: 198.153.192.50
Alternate DNS: 198.153.194.50

Re: Norton DNS

When you installed Comodo you may of agreed to use Comodo DNS unless you opted out.  I suggest (unless someone else here can help) you ask on the Comodo forum how to not use Comodo DNS.

You could look in Control Panel > Programs & Features to see if there is a program to unistall.  There is a thread here that might help.

Re: Norton DNS

Are you changing the settings on your computer or your router?

Here are the instructions to change settings on your Windows 7 machine.

This works for me with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64.

Try this. You will need to be logged in to Windows with an Administrator Account -

Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Click on the connection type ( If you are connected by cable it will be Local Area Connection.)

Click Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

Click Properties. Toward the bottom click Use the following DNS server address.

You will now have to enter the numbers of the Policy of your choice from https://dns.norton.com/dnsweb/faq.do.

Click OK to finish

I hope this helps.

Please let us know how you get on.

Re: Norton DNS

Yes, I've done all of this, a few times over, but still no results. Are there certain services that DNS relies on? Are there more than 1?

Re: Norton DNS

Hi,

Do you have a router connected? What is the DNS setting there?

Thanks

It's a Comcast Router, DDNS...

Hi,
That may be the root cause. The computer DNS setting is being filtered by the router DNS setting so there is a conflict. My recommendation would be to set the DNS of your choice on the router and remove any DNS settings from the computers.

It's much like having two security products on one system. They are both trying to do the same job at the same time and in the same place. Doesn't always work correctly.

Keep us posted

Re: Norton DNS

It doesn't give the option to put a dns address in there. Just a drop down box with the option to put a website address, username and password.

Re: Norton DNS

You may have to contact Comcast Tech Support.

The Modem / Router my ISP sent me didn't give the option to change DNS settings either but I bought my own (NETGEAR) and can now change it at will.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Norton DNS

Thanks for all the replies and help. Here is what I'm talking about.

But the funny thing is, my XP boot works fine, just my two W7 boots that doesn't. Any suggestion why?

Re: Norton DNS

I see it has an ADD button, If you click that does it give you an option to add Norton DNS?

Re: Norton DNS

No, just a host name :/

Re: Norton DNS

Do you know what the first two addresses are in front of the DNS?

No, sorry.

I still think Comcast may be the best to ask since it's their router.

Re: Norton DNS

Don't think it's the router, my XP is working fine with Norton DNS.

Re: Norton DNS

Guy from another forum told me to uncheck the box next to the IPV6 in the adapter settings, that was the problem.

Thanks for all your help :)
