Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Hi folks,

As you may know, with our new software platform comes some new features, and we're excited about a new one available now - Single Sign On. We are linking Forum Accounts with Norton Accounts.

For new Norton Forum customers, this will be fairly straightforward process:
1) Click Sign Up on the community
2) Create a new Norton Account (scroll to the bottom of the login page) or login to an existing Norton Account
3) Taken back to forums to confirm agree to the Terms of Service, confirm your username (your email address for the community will remain private as before), and make any other necessary profile changes

This will seem a bit confusing to existing forum members, which is why I want to prepare you for this transition:

Scenario #1 - I have a Norton Account with the same email address as my Forum Account.
In this scenario, the customer will just need to login to the Forums with that email address and password for the Norton Account, and they get access to their existing Forum Account that shares that email address. The Norton Account and Forum Account will be tied together after login. See the image below for the login page.

Scenario #2 - I have a Norton Account, but the email address is different than my Forum Account.

For this situation, the forum member will need to Create a new Norton Account (scroll to the bottom of the login page - see the below image) using the same email address as the existing Forum Account. Once created, the two accounts will tie together.

Scenario #3 - I have a Forum account but no Norton Account.
This is a simple situation to remedy; follow the same steps in Scenario #2. I know some people are not interested in creating a Norton Account. Unfortunately for them, it is now a requirement for a Forum Account.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please let me know. Thanks.

avjohnnie:

In addition to Tony's recommendation to delete them ... Consider changing (and further hardening) your Norton Account PW - Perhaps even a new email address for your account as well...

You might also what to consider enabling 2FA on your account (if you've not already done so).

Hi avjohnnie:

Thanks for the reminder.  I've been monitoring my Norton account just to see if my installation seats start disappearing again and waiting for Tony to provide further instructions, but I'll do that if I don't hear back from him by the end of the day.  I looked through my Norton account settings and don't see anything related to 2FA - I don't use Norton Identity Safe and I haven't been able to find another way to set up 2FA for my new Single Sign On for my Forum/Norton account.

What really concerns me is that I did not purchase my NIS product online from a reseller like Amazon.  I purchased a retail boxed CD from Staples (seal untampered) and used the product key that came with the CD to renew my annual subscription - and have never shared it with anyone.  I'm not sure how someone could be using my installation seats unless my Norton Account has been hacked.

Hi Imacri,

Yes - Certainly a concern... But what I find even more disconcerting is that your's is not the first report that's been made about this problem...  I (for one) make a point of checking my "Norton Info" regularly (at least once a week) at the Management website, but I don't think most users do (regularly, or if ever) ...

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Bonjour,

Hello,

I have not managed to find my old participation in the forum.

The Norton Account (for 10 aircraft in 2015) is the name of my husband for many years, but it was I who established a forum account and carried out exchanges since 2010 (mostly requests for assistance elsewhere ) on the forum with my nickname: micouduf and my email.

I thought that by proceeding as in Scenario 2 Scenario 3 or forum account and my Norton Account my husband would be involved and that I would find valuable posts in previous years. But it is not so!

I did not create a new account with the email I used previously for the forum because it is already recognized as belonging to a member. I had to use another email address so I am regarded as a new member with the loss of all my old trade. This is unfortunate.

In terms of the combination of the two accounts, this seems to work but with dual responses to the son that I am either: a mail to my husband and another to my new email address. And as my husband makes me follow what he receives from Norton community ... you see quickly clutter and duplication. During my first purchase, I did not see the possibility of including or join my old nickname.

In conclusion, when the possibility of having an account with a subscription for 10 devices and so more than one person, I find it very frustrating to lose its autonomy and former USEFUL messages exchanged over the years.

Thank you in advance for ideas and solutions.

Hi bjm_,

Thank you for adding the English translation of my post in French via Google.

But I found mistakes that sound silly.

So, I'd like to correct them and say what I really meant.

Hello,

I have not managed to find my old participation in the forum.

Our Norton Account (for 10 devices in 2015) has been identified under my husband’s name for many years, but it was I who created a forum account and carried out exchanges since 2010 (mostly requests for assistance) on the forum with my nickname: micouduf and my email.

I thought that by proceeding as in Scenario 2 or Scenario 3 my forum account and my husband’s Norton Account would be linked and that I would be able to read again valuable posts from previous years. But it is not so!

I did not manage to create a new account with the email I used to use for the forum because it is already recognized as belonging to a member (probably me in fact). I had to use another email address so I am regarded as a new member with the loss of all my previous posts and your replies. This is unfortunate.

In terms of the combination of the two accounts, this seems to work but with dual responses to the threads that I am following: one to my husband’s email address and another one to my new email address. And as my husband transfers what he receives from Norton community to my email address ... you can see easily what it is like with all these copies ! During my new Norton/forumAccount creation, I did not see any possibility of including or joining my previous nickname.

In conclusion, we have the possibility of having an account with a subscription for 10 devices therefore with more than one user, but only one user can participate on the forum. I find it very frustrating to lose one’s autonomy and former USEFUL messages exchanged over the years on this forum.

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Hi, Jean-Claude DUFOR!

Even when you are logged in with your new Norton Community/Forums username/nickname, Jean-Claude DUFOR, you can easily see a list of all the posts/replies you wrote earlier, when you logged in with your still existing username/nickname micouduf.

One way to do that, is to use the Advanced (Avancé) search function, which you find in the upper left corner (dans le coin supérieur gauche) of every page. After you have clicked on the Advanced (Avancé) link, you get to another Search page, where you are able to switch from 'Site' search to 'Users' ('Utilisateurs') search. Enter your 'old' username/nickname micouduf and press Enter (or click on the Search (Rechercher) link. You should only get one result, and this will be a link to the Profile page for micouduf. (Note that ALL users can see both this profile and the profile page of EVERY other user on the Norton Community/Forums, but all sensitive information are normally hidden.)

You also mention that your husband now get a message to HIS email address, when someone replies to any of the threads that you chose to follow (subscribed to) as the user micouduf. That implies that HE now can log in to the Norton Community as user micouduf, using the same email address and password that he uses when he logs in to his Norton Account. Another 'proof' (prevue?) of that, should be seen in every email message that he now receives FROM 'Norton Community (noreply@nortoncommunity.symantec.com)', TO 'micouduf (your husband's email address)'. You should either try this together, to confirm that no one else has the possibility to log in to your 'old' Norton Community username/nickname micouduf, OR wait for the help of Tony Weiss or any other Symantec employee, who MAYBE can fix all that has gone wrong.

As for the second part of your answer I will have to think about it and check details later on.

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

I'm having problems with the new forum login regime. 1) I was quite unable to retain my old user name doesn't matter but hardly slick and professional 2) the new login appears flakey, I often have to go through the confirming email process 3) Logging into my vault has become problematic and randomly successful; eg. this afternoon I was persistently unable to get my vault password recognised but could log into the vault on an adjoining pc no problem. There may be some relationship with how the process works with Firefox and NoScript - not a simple matter of different allowed items. So far the service login is problem free but I'm worried

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Hi all,

This morning, out of the blue, when I tried to  open the Vault on starting the computer, I was offered a sign in screen, then another sign in screen, then back to the first sign in screen, etc.  I restarted the computer, opened N360 and opened the vault via the Identity tab.

Ian

EDIT 1#:  - once into the Vault, the log ins I've used since have been OK.

EDIT: 2# - I should perhaps have tried to open the vault in the normal way when I restarted the computer, so lost the opportunity to see whether the restart had "cured" the issue.  I've now done a restart and opened the Vault in the normal way.

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

So, you've made some "exciting" changes in your forum. I'm always suspicious when a company says they've made "exciting" changes or are "thrilled" about something -- and this turns out to be no exception. If you click on someone's screen name and go to his/her profile page, you see his/her/its EMAIL ADDRESS. You ARE aware that forums typically allow you to contact a member via PM or email but don't actually INCLUDE THE ADDRESS in the profile? Hah? Not to mention that if it's right there on the page, it can be harvested by spammers! What the hell is the MATTER with you people? Norton SECURITY? Where's the SECURITY in that? What business do you have setting up a system that makes our email addresses public?

@1-, it should be the default setting already. If you were looking at my account as an example, I've actually changed the setting so people can see my email address. And when you look at your own account, you can see your own email address. Could you send me a private message with the accounts that you viewed where you saw their email address? Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Hi Tony,

Great! Things are improving.

I am a two-headed member getting better:

I’ve just noticed that I recovered: my former nickname (micouduf), the very first dates of my subscription to the Forum (04-Apr-2010), and my former image-avatar.

If I click on micouduf or my image, I can see 2 tabs: View and Activity (until 01-May-2015) and I am considered to be Off line as micouduf even if micoudu has been logged in.

When I want to log in, my Norton Identity safe includes my new details (e-mail and password) automatically. When I check my account section, things differ a little:  then, my nickname is micoudu not micouduf, I can see all the 5 tabs, Then, I’m a member since 10-Jul-2015, my activities start since 12-Jul-2015 and my image-avatar shows the new one.

I don't mind really, as long as I know who I am. I only wanted to let you know the effects of your backstage hard work.

PS: I'm back, after saving I noticed my post is as micoudu with my new image-avatar

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

Linking Forum and Norton Account logins ??

I can't see the logic or, indeed, the usefulness behind this requirement.  The Account information contains product keys, payment information, etc., which I don't want to link to the Forum.  So, what's the purpose?

As I use the same email for the Forum and my Norton Account .. I gather I have to: 1) change my Norton Account email address, and, then: 2) establish a new Forum Norton Account with my "old" email address to connect my Forum history to same.

Then, I have to: 3) change the email address of the new Forum Account, and, finally: 4) change back my Norton Account email to the old/prior original email address?!

Unless a Norton Subscription/License is needed to enter and use the Norton Fora, I don't see the logic and/or purpose of this new requirement of linking/sharing logins!

Right now I'm logged in after setting up a new Forum Norton Account with a temporary email from www. 10minutemail .com  A silly roundabout way to be here!  Best, CeeBee

Re: Forum Login linked with Norton Account Login

I also had different login emails/passwords for my Norton Community account and my Norton Management accounts and followed the instructions to merge them when I recently installed my new Norton Security software.

The procedure suggested in this thread didn't work and I lost my Product Management details entirely.  After a bit of juggling between the two I managed to be able to access my Product Management again but have now finished up with two Community Accounts;  one for past activity and one for activity since I installed Norton Security.

As I have said in another thread on this subject, I have been informed via the Chat Service that I cannot merge the two Community Accounts and must retain both.

I do find the Community Forums useful but am totally against being forced to link my account to my Norton Management Account which I think might be a potential risk to security and my product details.

Hi,

In order to find again your past activity on the forum have you tried Gunnar-SE 's solution to my own problem ? (this thread back to 11 Jul 2015 as Jean-Claude DUFOR then micouduf and finally micoudu) ? see quote below

"Even when you are logged in with your new Norton Community/Forums username/nickname, Jean-Claude DUFOR, you can easily see a list of all the posts/replies you wrote earlier, when you logged in with your still existing username/nickname micouduf.

One way to do that, is to use the Advanced (Avancé) search function, which you find in the upper left corner (dans le coin supérieur gauche) of every page. Enter your 'old' username/nickname micouduf and press Enter (or click on the Search (Rechercher) link. You should only get one result, and this will be a link to the Profile page for micouduf. (Note that ALL users can see both this profile and the profile page of EVERY other user on the Norton Community/Forums, but all sensitive information are normally hidden.)"

It worked for me.

Hello Umrk111

Please try this workaround. This issue has been reported to Norton.

1. Open up your Norton program

2. On upper right side, please sign out of the Norton program.

3. Close all browsers.

4. Open up one browser

5. Open up your Norton product and try to log into your vault.

6. Please remember you will have to enter your email address and password to your Norton Account.

7. Then it will ask for your password to the vault.

Please come back and let us know if this worked.

Thanks.
