Norton Exits Automatically

Hi. It's about 3 or 4 days that my Norton Security Deluxe exits automatically and its tray icon disappears and I have to run it again manually!!!

That didn't happen 1 time or 2 times! It happens several times in a day!!!

My Norton's version is 22.12.0.104 and is completely up-to-date. I run Live Update several times in a day. I dunno where did this problem come from. Until the previous version (22.11.2.7) everything was OK. After updating to the latest version, everything was OK, too; but this is happening from 3 or 4 days ago as I mentioned above!

Another problem that I have with my Norton, is that Norton doesn't show my PC's name in its About section! Of course, I can guess why this is happening. I changed my PC's name in my Windows Settings about 3 weeks ago and after that, Norton doesn't show my updated PC name! :(

For the first issue, Please release an update ASAP to fix the problem.

And for the second issue, Please help me fix this. I want Norton to show my new PC name in its About section.

I attached two screenshots for these issues. Please see them and post an answer here for me. Thank you.

There's no solution for my problem in the link you gave!

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

The name you see in the Help - About page is not the name you assign in Windows to the computer. It is a name that Norton assigns when you install the product.

One thing to check for this naming question is the setting for remote management in Settings - Administrative Settings. Be sure this is turned on and restart your computer.

Another thing to try is to click on Help - Subscription Status. That might sync the name shown in your Norton Account with that shown in your product.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

I've done everything you said; but they didn't work! Norton still doesn't show my Device Name.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

Maybe it is all related to your issue with the product not running correctly.

I would suggest getting a fresh install of your Norton product. Download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from    www.norton.com/nrnr   Be sure you read the Before you Begin section, and run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

About a year ago I had the same problem with Norton Security not showing my computer's Device Name on the About page.
I tried to fix it with "Get Support" (i.e. Norton Autofix), but no errors were found. And a restart of the computer didn't help either.

The solution to this minor problem is to temporarily change the (by Norton assigned) Device Name to something else, and then change it back to the old one (or a new one, if you want).

You do this easily after logging on with your Norton Account credentials on https://my.norton.com/

Make sure that the Help page is closed before you continue. (It's okey to have Norton Security open.)

When you are logged on, you should see all your devices, among them your computer and it's corresponding (by Norton assigned) Device Name. If you have "Remote Management" turned on, the status of your computer should be "Online"
Now change your computers Device Name temporarily to something else. (In my case I changed from "Gunnar-Windows 10" to "Gunnar").

This new, temporary Device Name should now (immediately!) be visible on the Help - About page in Norton Security on your computer, instead of "Not Available".

If so, you can now change back from the temporary Device Name (in my case, "Gunnar") to your old one (in my case, "Gunnar-Windows 10"), or whatever you want. Confirm that this new Device Name is shown on the Help - About page in Norton Security.
--------
While you are logged on to https://my.norton.com/, you can now go on to see what COMPUTER (Windows) name Norton thinks that you have. Click on your (by Norton and yourself assigned) Device Name. Now you should se either your current computer/Windows name or your old one. (In my case it is "PAUSE7").

Best regards,
Gunnar in Sweden

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

Thank you very much to you both!

Gunnar's solution worked! My Device Name is now updated on the About page!

Now please inform Norton programmers if you have close connection with them in order to fix the main problem that I posted this topic (i.e. Exiting Norton).

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

For your Norton product exiting, did you try a fresh install as I suggested in my last post? It is possible something got muddled with your installation when you got the update to 22.12.x.x.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

No, I didn't. Because it causes all my preferences be reset; and I don't want this. Because of that, I'm waiting for Norton to fix this problem with an update.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

As you are the only user I have seen reporting your system being shut down, it does sound like a possible corruption of your Norton installation. No update can fix that. You would need a fresh install.

What preferences are you concerned about losing? Most are retained when you choose to keep settings during the uninstall process. The main loss of personalization is any custom firewall rules.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

I dunno! MAYBE you're right.

All preferences that I set in Settings I mean. It took me about 30 minutes to check all the preferences and customize them as I need.

Re: Norton Exits Automatically

All on/off settings from the Settings area of your Norton product should be maintained. As I noted, the main issue users have is if they have set custom firewall rules. If you do not use those, you should have no problems.
