Web and search are not blocked or monitored

Confirmed all options are turned on, tried adding specific sites to block, uninstalling/reinstalling Safety Minder, deleting children and recreating...  nothing helped. Can access and search for any site and no activity is logged.

Time restrictions DO work just fine however, so something is alive and talking.  Also changes to the rules get updated in Safety Minder without a problem.

1. WinXP

2. Both Firefox and IE

3. Both Admin and Limited

4. Safety Minder  1.0.3.18

5. Symantec Client Firewall 8.7.4.110 and Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.6.6000

I believe that you should have received a popup message indicating that you needed to reboot, however it may have not been shown or was ignored.

Could you try a reboot and report back what happens when you are back up?

I'm not sure exactly what the issue is caused by in this case, but I do think we have some issues with older versions of our Enterprise products.  OnlineFamily.Norton is compatible with Symantec Endpoint Protection v11 and above.

I'll follow-up with the OnlineFamily team to find out if there is any way we can work with the version of SCF you have installed; however, it's unsupported.

Do your children use the machine with SEP/SAV installed as their primary computer?  We work fine with the home versions of our security products (Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton Antivirus, etc.)

You were right.  I uninstalled SAV and everything works fine now.  So it doesn't work with SAV v10 (or v9 - tried that too).  Or ZoneAlarm.  Grrrrrr.

I'm really sorry you had to go through that process.  We do work w/ competitors' security products, but ZoneAlarm is one that we're still trying to resolve.  We've worked out most of the issues we've found with other competitors, and either they or we have made changes to make sure we run smoothly together. 

So our intent is to work with any security company's products, but some of the things we do, such as filtering network traffic very low down in the network stack, for example, can sometimes cause security products to try to prevent the SafetyMinder from running.  Hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of the Zone problem soon.
