No sign of Norton Toolbar or Norton Identity Safe

Hi there.

Today I updated Firefox to the latest version: 43.0.3. Alas, Norton Toolbar & Norton Identity Safe were nowhere to be seen. I followed the directions to run LiveUpdate in Norton, close all programmes, restart my computer, load Firefox, go to the menu, thence to add-ons & click on Norton Toolbar to enable it if it was grayed (sic) out. I was informed that "Norton Identity Safe could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled." As confirmation, beneath that I was informed (in brackets) that Norton Identity Safe was disabled. This latter piece of information was indeed greyed out but there was no response from anyone or anything when I clicked on the greyed out Norton Identity Safe.

Two questions: How do I get Norton Toolbar & Norton Identity Safe into Firefox? And the more general one of why instructions on the internet about solutions to computer problems so apparently inaccurate &/or incomplete?

To display the Tool Bar, go to Menu (3 bars in right hand corner) > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars and select Norton Toolbar and then Exit Customize.

Happy new year everyone.

Thanks for the tip, dbrisendine. I've got the Norton Toolbar but it doesn't include Norton Identity Safe/Vault, sadly.

Lizen, did you get Norton Vault/Identity Safe as part of the Norton Toolbar?

I found a page on the Norton website which states that Norton has released a new version of Norton Toolbar that's partially compatible with the latest versions of Firefox. Among other features, Norton Identity Safe/Vault isn't available in the latest release of the Norton Toolbar. Norton is working to restore the excluded features, including Identity Safe/Vault, "in a later release". But Identity Safe/Vault can still be used from a different browser like Internet Explorer & Chrome. It seems it'll be some months before the problem of not being able to have Identity Safe with Firefox is solved. How disappointing as Firefox seems to or soon will be the standard web browser now that Microsoft seems to have bailed out of providing a decent Internet Explorer, opting to go with Edge. It's enough to put my teeth on Edge.

I sense your anger, minato. Although someone once said "Patience is the virtue of an ass who trots beneath the burden of his load and is silent" I suspect that's what is needed here. One day, perhaps, Norton will provide we Firefoxphiles with Norton Identity Safe/Vault. The other alternatives are Internet Explorer & Google Chrome which both have the appeal of ageing rock stars. But good on you for getting your money back.

Oops! I forgot. Another alternative is to use KeePass with Firefox. One slow news day I'll have a play with that & see what comes of it.

Re: No sign of Norton Toolbar or Norton Identity Safe

Hello

Edge can not be used with any toolbars since they do not allow extensions yet and will not allow them until maybe June from what I have heard. Edge is like an empty browser and not too many programs work with it yet from what I hear. That is why they have IE 11 in Windows 10. In Dec. Windows Updates, they already had updates for Edge and they weren't to give more things that Edge can do. What makes it harder for Norton to finish the project is that Mozilla keeps changing the rules. This isn't just my opinion but facts.

You can also use your cell phone to access your vault and use that. Norton has told customers to find alternatives for the Identity Safe/Vault until they can finish the Vault.

Why does Mozilla need to make major changes from 42 to 43 and so many changes from 43.0 to 43.0.1 etc.? This results in them changing the browser almost weekly. This results in Norton having to make changes while trying to finish and test the Vault so that it is secure.

Thanks.

Many thanks, floplot. You make some good points. I think their are times we can be forgiven for thinking that a lot of organisations introduce change for the sake of change. It's a phenomenon almost embedded in our culture. Meanwhile, Norton must feel like a dog chasing its tail!
