TomTom Go 510 will not update

I have Norton Security for windows ver on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3,8GB ram, 512GB SSD and Windows 10.

I bought a TomTom Go 510, installed the software ok but the device would not update. I called TomTom support and they sent me the email below:-

As per our discussion on call, I informed you that according to the information in our server, I can see this download has failed due to one of the following reasons:

1. Aggressive anti-virus or firewall.

2. Poor Wi-Fi connection.

3. Router issues (business network instead of a home connection)

In order to resolve this issue,  recommend you address your download environment. It is advisable to alter the settings of your security software to allow the MyDrive program to download items without issues. I have included information below on what settings need to be altered:

1.Use a cabled, non-wireless, non-business connection that is at least 4 Mbits. Use this link http://www.speedtest.net/ (select BEGIN TEST) to test whether you have adequate download speed for the updates available for your device.

2.Configure the Firewall (or the Internet protection in the antivirus) setting

3.“MyDriveConnect.exe” as authorized in the firewall

4. In the Firewall’s settings, make sure that all the communication via the following TCP ports is allowed (inbound and outbound, local and remote) for all network connections:

- 53

- 80, 443

- 3128 and 3129 (ReverseProxy)

- 4000  (The Web connector port of MyTomTom)

I'm on a home network with speed of 20Mbits so it is not 2 and 3. I checked in the firewall program settings and "MyDriveConnect.exe” seems to have full rights.

I have the following questions:-

Has anyone had this problem before?

Are TomTom right in their diagnosis?

How do I configure the ports as suggested above?

Kind regards

Re: TomTom Go 510 will not update

I use a Tom Tom GPS unit and have no problems updating it with default settings on my Win 10 Pro system with Norton Security with Backup ver.

Have you restarted your computer? If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Try temporarily disabling the Norton Firewall to see if that is what is causing the problem. Right click  on the Norton icon in the system tray and click Disable Smart Firewall. Choose 15 minutes and then test to see if you can update your GPS. If that does not help, it is not your Norton firewall causing the issue. Be sure you turn the firewall back on.

If it does work work, resetting your firewall may help. From the main Norton screen, click on Settings - Firewall. Then click Reset beside the Firewall Reset option.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
