Vault button missing

The Norton vault button on the Norton tool bar is suddenly missing.  How can I restore it?

I am using Windows 10 and Chrome.

I have rebooted the computer with no change.  The tool bar is there, but the button is missing.  Checking Norton Security, the vault is enabled, but the button has disappeared.

Re: Vault button missing

Did you get the new Norton Security version 22.12.1.14 update while it was available? If so, what you see is Norton's changes to the Chrome Toolbar and Identity Safe extensions. This Norton KB article explains about the ID Safe no longer working from the Toolbar.

Obviously if 1 step is good, 4 steps is even better to open the vault.

Re: Vault button missing

I updated to Norton's version 22.12.1.14 and now have to go through settings in Chrome to access the Norton vault to get to my Identity Safe logins. (Before that, I was able to access Identity Safe logins through the Norton toolbar in Chrome, which was more convenient.) Now, most of my logins will work, but some will not, and it's frustrating to have to manually type in the passwords that should automatically be showing when using Norton Identity Safe logins. Any suggestion to solve this issue would help! Thanks!

Re: Vault button missing

I also use Windows 10 and Chrome. I can no longer access my local vault nor can I create a new cloud vault.

1) If I click the Norton Identity Safe icon, it states that my vault is locked. When I click the Open Vault button, a new window opens that states No Vault Detected. When I click the Create Vault button, it asks me to create a password (click Next), then re-enter password (click Next) and create a password hint. When I then click the Create Vault button, the window closes and I receive a pop-up that states "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

2) If I open the Identity Safe Settings, under the General tab it shows:

Google Chrome (default browser) : Extension not installed

When I click the Install Extension link, a window opens that says Norton Identity Safe Extension Successfully Upgraded Click the Vault icon in your browser to access your Vault.

Which then takes me back to problem 1). Then if I check the settings again, it shows Extension not installed!

When I open Norton Security...click Help and then click About, it shows that I have Version 22.12.1.14 installed. So I have the latest version, but can no longer access or create a vault.

Re: Vault button missing

Sounds like "Catch 22", doesn't it! I go around and around with that same problem. You would think that Norton would upgrade to an improved function of their Identity Safe Login instead of creating such frustration for the subscribers.

Re: Vault button missing

What a bloody disaster this is turning out to be. "If it isn't broke why fix it"! No autofilll working. Vault states it's open  - but it does not work. No norton tool bar visible. This is not the first time I have had problems with NIS updates. I am considering cancelling my subscription and installing Kaspersky! I see that the latest update has been pulled from the server. I wonder why?

Re: Vault button missing

I have the same problems here after the Identity Safe upgrade 22.12.0.104 since yesterday
- Identity Safe button is now replace with an icon on the top right of Chrome/Firefox (not a big deal)
- But Norton keeps mentioning that I should install the extentions on Chrome (default browser), which are already installed. (Enoying !!!)
- The vault closes each time you close your browser and not after 45 min. like put in my settings. (Stressing !!!)
- On several websites the login and password are no longer filled in automatically (Frustrating !!!)
- Norton keeps popping up with the message that the synchronisation of the safe is finished (Shut up !!!)
- Not all the possible logins for a particular website are shown anymore (Help !!!)

Indeed this update is a bloody disaster.

I already reinstalled Chrome and Norton Security yesterday myself. No solution. Same problems with Firefox, Edge and IE. Then I contacted the helpdesk via chat. They did the same actions and were not aware of any upgrade problems. They promised to escalate the problem.
Now I read that the upgrade had been pulled back. Oh nice...than I will remove Norton from my computer, clear the registry keys and reinstall. But bloody hell, the same version 22.12.0.104 is installed again. .

Is anyone from Symantec/Norton still in the house to fix this mess or even give any response on our comments ???

I want the former version back as it was good and thorough.

The update issue has nothing to do with ID Safe. See this thread.  https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-22121-patch-wipes-out-sche...

What the update did do was activate changes in the ID Safe extensions for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. See the link in my first post above to see what is involved now. Basically, the vault is no longer accessible from the Toolbar, but from the icon on the right side of the browser address bar. So this is not a problem/issue. It is the new 'normal' for accessing the vault.

No Peterweb?. If this was the only update issue, I wouldn't mind. But read all the comments there are more things going wrong after the update and Norton knows it. Otherwise they wouldn't have pulled back the update.

As I noted in my reply to Denocon above, the Norton Security update did not create the changes in ID Safe browser extensions. They were updated separately and the NS update just activated those design changes.

- Identity Safe button is now replace with an icon on the top right of Chrome/Firefox (not a big deal)

That is how the newer browser extensions have been accessed for a while.

- But Norton keeps mentioning that I should install the extentions on Chrome (default browser), which are already installed. (Enoying !!!)

Try clicking Continue. That should take you to a page to accept the different extensions. They will probably already be marked as active. Close that page and you should not be bothered again.

- The vault closes each time you close your browser and not after 45 min. like put in my settings. (Stressing !!!)

If you were able to set a login timeout, you were probably still using a local vault, that could be accessed from the Norton Toolbar.  The new extensions are designed to close the cloud vault when a browser is closed. This is designed as a security measure in case you walk away from your computer without locking it. This way no one can open your browser and have access to your logins.
- On several websites the login and password are no longer filled in automatically (Frustrating !!!)
- Norton keeps popping up with the message that the synchronisation of the safe is finished (Shut up !!!)

Does this just happen when you first log into your vault?  If so, Norton is just ensuring that the cached information on your computer is up to date. In case you might have changed or added logins from another device or web session.
- Not all the possible logins for a particular website are shown anymore (Help !!!)

I am not surprised to hear so many Norton users being angry about the update that is causing so much havoc! Things were running smoothly with the previous version of Norton, but certainly not anymore. This problem does NOT only happen when I first log in, as the writer states. It happens continuously whenever I try to use Identity Safe Login. When I called Norton a few days ago about this issue, they kind of blamed it on the websites I was trying to access, but those sites have worked flawlessly with the previous Norton version. Hoping that Norton will realize how angry and frustrated their customers are at the moment with this last "improvement"  of Identity Safe Logins, they need to fix this issue immediately, or they will lose many subscribers. There are other companies out there that would love to sell us their wares.

My only point about the update being pulled is that the update itself has nothing to do with the ID Safe features. In browsers, the ID Safe is no longer installed from the Norton Security product. It is installed as individual extensions in each browser.

What the update did do was make changes to the Norton Toolbar to remove access to the ID Safe functions. There is no issue with this. It is by design. I did not say I liked it, just passing on the information.

And believe me, I have read all the comments on the new version being pulled.

Hello Peterweb.
Thanks for the feedback

"The new extensions are designed to close the cloud vault when a browser is closed. This is designed as a security measure in case you walk away from your computer without locking it. This way no one can open your browser and have access to your logins"

Please let the user decide when the vault should be closed. It's his/her responsablity.

I changed my default browser to IE and I have the old toolbar back (great). The vault doesn't close each time the browser is closed. And the different logins on the webpages are there again on ALL webpages. (GREAT)

Re: Vault button missing

Norton just released another patch (v22.12.1.15) and it's now worse! I used to be able to access my passwords by opening Norton Security, but now all I keep getting is a pop-up reminding me to "Upgrade your Identity Safe extension" (for Norton Toolbar) which takes me to the previously mentioned page that states "Norton Identity Safe Extension Successfully Upgraded", but the pop-up won't go away and I'm stuck in a loop!

Re: Vault button missing

I wish all of you would send a message via Feedback to Norton, as I did, when auto-fill for Identity Safe login will not work for certain websites. To do this: open the website that does not auto-fill Identity Safe login, click the Norton Identity Safe icon at the upper right of Chrome. Select/click My Vault from the drop-down menu, click the Settings icon at top right of Norton's page (...), click Feedback, then fill out the info and click Submit. Perhaps letting Norton know how dissatisfied many of their subscribers are with the new version and its problems will make them realize to fix this issue sooner than later.

Re: Vault button missing

Well for me this is the final nail in Norton's coffin, It's time to switch to a new password manager and I might as well go elsewhere for security too as ID safe was about the only thing keeping me using it., I just tried logging in to 6 sites to test this new version, 2 logged in ok,1 logged my details in to the create an account section and 3 did nothing at all. What with the annoying pop ups and reminders about renewing and the slew of bugs I have experienced with my years of using Norton I see little reason to remain any longer.

Re: Vault button missing

To make things worse if you want to stay signed in when closing Chrome you have to have Chrome running constantly in the background. Chrome is a huge resource hog, It's fine for when you are actually browsing but I am not leaving it running when I am doing other things with my PC.

What a shoddy ill thought out redesign this was, I cannot see 1 single way this benefits the end user or improves functionality.

Re: Vault button missing

Thanks floplot, but my issue is that I can't access my Vault anymore. I used to have a Local Vault with Norton Security, but with the 22.12.1.14 patch (and the 22.12.1.15 patch) it should have been converted to a Cloud Vault. Unfortunately, when I sign in, I'm notified that my Vault is locked and when I attempt to open it, it says No Vault detected. If I try to create a Vault, the window closes and a pop-up message states "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

Re: Vault button missing

Hi Sunil_GA,

I just spent most of the morning uninstalling Norton (v22.12.1.15) and then installed v22.12.0.104 (from my.norton.com). After several attempts to sign in (server errors, etc.), I managed to create a cloud vault...although it was empty. Fortunately, I recently exported my local vault to a .CSV file and was able to import it to the cloud vault.

I did login at the link you provided and it showed my vault with all of the passwords.

My next step is to run LiveUpdate and, hopefully, upgrade back to v22.12.1.15 and see if the cloud vault will still be there!

Re: Vault button missing

I logged into the site you mention, and my vault opens with all of my Identity Safe logins. When I want to use Identity Safe, however, after being signed in to the vault, the login will appear for a split second, then it disappears again, giving me no time to click and fill in user-ID and password. At this point, I am as frustrated as so many subscribers are, and wish Norton would find a fix for this issue soon, because otherwise I will be joining the people who are going to call it quits with Norton. Identity Safe is a valuable function to many, and it's not working properly.

Re: Vault button missing

As you are reading this I will be uninstalling NIS from my PC and installing an alternative.  I still have <> 6 months of my current license left but I will sacrifice that for some peace of mind and no more frustration (I hope). Norton do not seem in that much of a hurry to fix the problems caused by their update. My time is too valuable to me to spend it attempting to sort out problems caused by them.

Re: Vault button missing

Still frustrated with my logins not working with Identity Safe, I tried the following method which seems to auto-fill my logins:

Enter the website you want to be auto-filled by Identity Safe with your username and password. Open Norton Identity Safe by clicking its icon at the top right of the website. Click "Open Vault", and the sign-in menu for the chosen website should show with your username. (If you are lucky, your password will also show, but mine does not.) With your cursor, hover over the sign-in menu, and when Norton Identity Safe popup will show, click the arrow to the right of your username. Your password/login should then auto-fill for that website. Click Enter.
