Norton Community Participation Guidelines

The Norton Community is provided by Symantec as a service to its Norton product and service customers, to help them exchange ideas, tips, information, and techniques related to our products and services. These Participation Guidelines are presented here so that you know what is expected of you and what you can expect from other participants when using the boards, blogs, and forums that make up the Norton Community.  By participating you agree to follow these Participation Guidelines as well as the Norton Community Terms of Service

- Stay on topic -

For everyone's benefit please stay on topic. The boards, blogs and forums that make up the Norton Community are provided for the specific purpose of making it possible for participants to exchange information and help each other in using Norton products and solutions. Please refrain from discussing personal matters, abusing any company or product, or, in general, from posting in a manner unrelated to the discussion of issues concerning Norton products and services.

Periodically review materials that you have previously posted to ensure that the information is still accurate. This step is required even though the system will also automatically prune old posts as needed to enable the highest level of speed and responsiveness from our servers.

- Keep it courteous -

Everyone wants to have a positive experience while visiting the Norton Community - please make sure that you are not detracting from any other participant's experience. In particular, please refrain from posting anything unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, harassing, threatening, harmful, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, ethnically, racially, religiously or sexually offensive, or otherwise objectionable or injurious to third parties.

Your opinions are always welcome, but a personal attack or harassment ("flaming") either through the Norton Community boards, blogs or forums, or through the Personal Message system, is prohibited.

Please remember that other community members can't see your facial expressions or hear the tone of your voice. It's easy for comments intended as harmless jokes to be mistaken for harsh, intentional criticism.  While we strongly encourage open debates/discussions, we want to make sure that they take place in a climate of mutual respect.

- Protect your privacy -

Symantec's online privacy policy applies to the Norton Community.  Please do not post any personally identifying information, whether your own or that of another person or entity.  Posting your own phone number, address and any other personally identifying information is prohibited.  Also, if any community member asks you for personal information, such as an account number, address, password or credit card number, do not provide it.

- Keep it spam-free -

The Norton Community is made available by Symantec as a benefit to its Norton product and service customers, and is not intended for the promotion of third party services, products, websites, or organizations. For both forum posts and Personal Messages, please do not post links to third-party sites if they are not relevant to the topics being discussed.  Please do not post third party logos, and refrain from posting content that would constitute advertising, junk mail, spam, chain letters, or any other form of unauthorized solicitation.

- Keep it legal -

It is unacceptable to post any material (i) that would infringe on any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary rights of any party, (ii) that contains software viruses or any other computer code or files that are designed to disrupt, damage, or limit the functioning of any software or hardware, or (iii) that is deemed to be illegal by any local, state, federal, or international law.

- Be careful -

Most people are happy to help out on the boards, blogs and forums that make up the Norton Community, but remember that their advice is theirs only and that you are responsible for deciding whether or not to follow it. If the advice given by a community member sounds wrong to you, do not try it.  Please also remember that Symantec does not specifically monitor, ensure, or confirm the accuracy of, or provide input or support for information posted by other community members.

- Personal Messaging policy -

The Personal Messaging (PM) tool is available for any user to use to contact any other user or moderator on the Norton Community Forums. You can access the PM tool by selecting the envelope icon on the top right-hand section of the community. Any PM is a personal correspondence between you and the party to whom it is sent. Before posting any PM correspondence in a public board you must ask and receive permission to do so from the other party. This policy also applies to email and others forms of communication.

- Symantec retains the right to remove content and limit users' access -

Symantec does not generally edit or monitor content posted by Norton Community participants. However, Symantec retains the right, at its sole discretion, to limit participants' access to the Norton Community and to remove material that, in Symantec's sole judgment, does not comply with these Participation Guidelines or the Terms of Service, or that is otherwise inappropriate for the Norton Community, harmful, objectionable, or inaccurate. Symantec is not responsible for any failure or delay in removing such material.

Symantec's Norton Community is not a legal venue, and as such any discussion of litigation (past, present or future) shall not be allowed. Symantec retains the right to remove this material and to limit participants' access to the Norton Community if this type of material is posted.

Symantec's Norton Community moderators may take any action they deem necessary in their own judgment to support the Community Participation Guidelines and Terms of Service. Such actions may include editing or deleting material and banning individual participants.

- Terms of Service -

All participation in the Norton Community is subject to the Norton Community Terms of Service.  Please remember that Members like you are providing most of the material in the Forums. Such third-party content is the sole responsibility of the person originating the material. Symantec does not control and is not responsible for this third-party material.

Except where expressly provided otherwise, your use of the Norton Community website(s), content, and services are at your sole risk. The Norton Community website, content, and services are provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Symantec expressly disclaims all representations, warranties, or conditions of any kind, whether express or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, system integration, quiet enjoyment, title, and non-infringement. Without limiting the foregoing, Symantec makes no warranty that (i) the community website or the services will meet your requirements; (ii) the Norton Community website or services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; (iii) the results obtained from the use of the Norton Community website or the services will be accurate or reliable; (iv) the quality of any products, services, information, or other material purchased or obtained by you through the Norton Community website or the services will meet your expectations; or (v) any errors in the Norton Community website or the services will be corrected.  This disclaimer and limitation on liability is in addition to the disclaimers and limitations contained in the Terms of Service, Legal Notices posted on Symantec's web site that apply to all use of Symantec's web site, which can be found at http://www.symantec.com/about/profile/policies/legal.jsp). In case of discrepancy between this document and the Terms of Service, Symantec's Legal Notices, or with Symantec's Privacy Policy, the Terms of Service will prevail.
