Norton core discontinued?

I noticed recently that the Norton Core is no longer available on Best Buy's website (entering it in the search window results in a "not found" message.  I did a google search and found one website that claims Norton Core has been discontinued:

https://www.channelnews.com.au/exclusive-norton-axe-dud-core-security-ro...

Considering only one website has this information, it could be inaccurate.  If true, this would be disappointing, as it would imply new functionality (e.g. mesh wifi) may no longer be a priority for Symantec.  Has anyone else heard about the Core being discontinued?

Re: Norton core discontinued?

There do appear to be multiple confirmations across the web that Norton Core is discontinued. The product is also no longer on their website for sale. It seems this happened at the end of January and may be the reason Symantec has been resistant to offer annual subscriptions due to the product's pending status. I think that part of the products difficulty in gaining traction was the rigid pricing model that locked users into an expensive comprehensive suite.

SecurityQuest. Do you have reference links? Curious, I cannot find a single one. I can vouch for the lack of support dedication with Core, having been a user since just after it was available. Lack of the basic functions, IE: being able to manually clear the "recently on your network" list was my pet peeve. Having it to only repopulate after a few weeks after performing a factory reset to clear it just added to the mix. It will be interesting indeed if Core is being discontinued. What an expensive banner piece we shall all have.

Cheers

Re: Norton core discontinued?

I suspect we're seeing an evolution of the ":secure WiFi router". The Core was an interesting first attempt, but Norton is not a hardware company - let alone a router company - and the basic features that other routers offered were never available.

The newer model seems to be an established router manufacturer partnering with an established security services provider for a solution (D-Link with McAfee, Asus with Trend Micro, etc.) to provide a better overall experience.

It will be interesting to see if Norton follows this model or just retreats to the security suite business. Hopefully they will let us know what the future holds for those of us who went with the Core...

Interesting: https://guides.yoosecurity.com/norton-core-discontinued-reminder/

Would be nice if Norton notified Core owners about this.

Re: Norton core discontinued?

Didn't they have testing for the mesh system not to long back?Did they back away from that and give up on the core all together?

Re: Norton core discontinued?

I wonder where subscription funds are going? There hasn’t been a firmware update or new features for a while. How long will support continue? A good response to current customers and those customers purchasing Core from leftover inventory would go a long way.

Re: Norton core discontinued?

FWIW!! The Android app updated overnight to version 1.93. No release notes once again. On google play the write-up states just generic under the hood enhancements. Nothing new there in the app.

Re: Norton core discontinued?

We are discontinuing the hardware production of Norton Core and as of January 31, 2019, Norton Core is no longer available for purchase. Current Norton Core customers with an active subscription to Norton Core Security Plus software will continue to receive protection for their home network, connected devices, laptops, tablets and smartphones through January 31, 2021. Nevertheless, our commitment to protecting the connected home remains strong. We are working to expand Norton Core into a software solution that will help protect the connected home regardless of the router or Internet Service Provider.

Re: Norton core discontinued?

Symantec should issue refunds to all current users what a monumental waste of time and money AUD$ 300 down the drain.. Well done Symantec..

Re: Norton core discontinued?

There is a 30 day money back guarantee on the Core. Even if you are a month or two over that, you should be able to argue for a refund.

Re: Norton core discontinued?

I personnly have Norton Core subscription valid for another 340 days - what the hell happens to this now, where is my refund on this?

Re: Norton core discontinued?

As a Core subscription is good for 365 days, you are within the 30 days for a Core refund. You cannot do anything in the forum about this. Contact Norton Support to request the refund.    www.norton.com/contactcs

If you do not try, you will never know.
