Purevpn program blocked by Norton Security

Hi,

I have been using purevpn as my vpn service.  I now find that Norton Security is preventing purevpn connecting to the Internet.

I have tried to whitelist purevpn by going into Settings>Firewall>Program Control but there are no programs shown there and the software does not allow me to add any programs.

When I switch off Norton Smart Firewall purevpn works properly.

How do I stop Norton Security blocking purevpn?

If this has changed just recently, you may need to reset the Norton Firewall.

To reset the Norton firewall, from the main Norton Security screen click on Settings - Firewall. On the General tab, click on Reset beside Firewall Reset. Restart your computer. As you use programs that access your network/internet, the firewall rules will be created again.

If that does not help, try reinstalling PureVPN.

Re: Purevpn program blocked by Norton Security

Hi Peter,

Thanks for this suggestion.  I reset the firewall and re-installed PureVPN on two machines - one running Windows 8.1 and the other running Windows 10.  After reconfiguring both pieces of software I was able to get PureVPN working on both machines.

Unfortunately on the W8.1 machine Norton does not display any programs when you click the "Program Control" tab, which complicated the fix.

Thanks again.

It might pay you to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool on that Win8.1 machine to get a clean install.

Make sure you read the Before you begin section.

Re: Purevpn program blocked by Norton Security

Hi Krusty,

Thanks for the suggestion.

As the PureVPN and Norton Security software are now working together I decided not to reinstall Norton.  The software is also running on Windows 8.1, which is such a flaky operating system that I am slow to make system changes.

The missing functionality in Norton is not a problem for me at present.
