School Time Problems

School Time does not seem to block restricted sites.  I enter restricted sites and then turn on school time and it still allows the sites.  I can restrict the sites by entering them as a blocked site all the time, but I would prefer to use school time.  I also noticed that if I deselect a category in school time it changes the web categories as well.  So when school time is turned off, my web categories are messed up.

Hi Pman79,
'School Time' gets enforced from the parent initiated time until the duration configured. If the child's computer has incorrect time, then it might not work as expected.
Could you please confirm whether your child's computer has correct time?

Hi Pman79,

1. School Time not blocking restricted sites: Could you give sometime for School Time policy updates to happen in client. Also kindly ensure your house rules are up to date in client.  

2. Deselecting categories in school time are changing the web categories, when school time is disabled: We are not observing this issue and the categories are as expected after the changes. Could you please try once again and if issue occurs, kindly share the web categories screen shots before and after disabling school time for further investigation.

When I had www.youtube.com to restricted sites under school time and then enable school time youtube is not disabled.  I can still travel to the site.  Now if under the normal web restricted sites it is added then it works.  My house rules are updated on the client computer.

Hello,

My computer has the right time.  I do not see were you specify a start and stop time.  I can only set a duration.  I tried it again today.  I blocked Youtube during school time and set the duration to 1hr.  A message showed up on my computer alerting them that school time is active.  Youtube is still not blocked.  It does not seem to work.

I have youtube blocked too and he still gets on youtube and it does not show his youtube activity.

Hi Pman & CAWSimmons,

Upon investigating your issue, we observe that Norton Family Browser Extensions are disabled on your child's windows device. Please enable the Norton Family browser extensions on all the supported browsers(IE, Chrome, Firefox). Once you have enabled the extensions, Norton Family will block the restricted websites with a block or warn page. 

Please check and confirm if this is happening. The YouTube videos viewed by the child can be seen in portal or parent apps. Browser extension is a prerequisite for the product to function completely and should not be disabled.

Recently I also read, that if the child has the website open and you initiate school time it will not work. The web page must be closed and then school time initiated. That will then block the site.

Norton Family will monitor any new network traffic after any policy change. If a website is already kept open, it will not be blocked since there won't be any new navigation. This behavior is same for both school time and web supervision features.

Seems really counter productive. The whole point in having the app is to monitor during school. How is a parent at work supposed to be able to limit access during school time if the child can just leave a site open and be able to access it during school time initiated or to even block the website, if they just leave it open and can access anyways.
