Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

With VPN turned on, I went to Split Tunnel, ADD, and then clicked on my printer to exclude it from the VPN.  It should have said OK below so I could choose it but OK did not light up. What do I do to correct it?

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

I have tried most of the answers, Then spoke with a Tech at HP. He said it wouldn't matter how I used the VPN as it would still reject it because it would change the IP address with the same results.

Since then I have removed the VPN. Updated my Norton. All is OK .

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

When you add an exclusion to the split tunnel feature you must select a program to exclude. You cannot exclude other items so the feature will not light up.

What do you mean by a program? It stated to click on item to be excluded and then the alert would show up.

A program is an app you want to exclude. An executable file.

Route applications using Split Tunnel in Norton Secure VPN

The Split Tunnel feature in Norton Secure VPN lets you route some of your app traffic through the VPN channel while other apps access the Internet directly.

The Split Tunnel feature is currently available on Norton 360, Norton Secure VPN app for Windows and Android only.

Depending on your device, choose one of the following to access Split Tunnel.

I have Norton 360 app on Windows

I have Norton Secure VPN app on Windows

I have an Android device

FWIW ~

Sounds like the VPN is disguising the network you are on which is very normal.

So if that is normal ("Sounds like the VPN is disguising the network you are on which is very normal.") then is there a solution apart from switching off VPN whwich I've had to do to get my services to work?

In another thread somebody had reported they had turned the VPN off, removed the printer completely, turned the VPN on and then added the printer back. And now they can print.

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

You cannot exclude a printer.

If you want to exclude some printer app you must find that app on the list and exclude it. The VPN is for internet traffic not local traffic from PC to printer.

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

Are you having trouble with your printer with the VPN active? Is the printer connected by Ethernet or Wifi?

What error messages are you seeing?

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

My printer is connected with Wifi? There is not an error message it is just that the Alert does not allow OK to be clicked. I am using an HP printer which is what I clicked on. Am I supposed to find an app for that? but then how can I put it into the list?

Someone suggested removing the printer , turn on the VPN , add in the printer. I just tried that. Still does not work.

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

As already noted above, the Split Tunnel feature is used to allow an app or an .exe file to bypass the VPN. It is not used for allowing devices. This issue may be similar to others here having issues accessing a network device on their network with the VPN active.

If this printer is on your own network, we can hope that you have fully protected your network with a strong Wifi password. In this case you do not need a VPN.

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

As long as a home network is properly secured with a strong Wifi password, there is no real need for the VPN as a security aid. You only need VPN when trying to connect to a public hotspot.

Re: Problem with VPN , Alert does not come up

If VPN is on, I can't manage my MY Cloud device, if I turn VPN off, it is available again. not very efficient to turn VPN off and on to do someting. The split tunnel solution offered by a NORTON specialist, is not very helpfull, as I need to specify a program. I wonder if NORTON is able to simply clarify how this works, and why it blocks access
