VPN on iPhone - issue in Sam's

I have Norton VPN loaded on my iPhone (12).  In general it works OK, but I have an issue when I go shop at Sam's.  Due to the weak WiFi in Sams or maybe it is "full", I can't seem to log on to their WiFi.  Actually my phone may catch a signal briefly, then lose it, so it will go back to LTE.  I like to use the "scan n go" app inside Sams, it saves a lot of time when I shop and get ready to check out.  Nowadays I have to disconnect the WiFi on my iPhone or use my wife's iPhone (which doesn't have the Norton VPN).

I have already tried to delete the app and reload it but that doesn't seem to help.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you know if Sam's is blocking VPN access?

Re: VPN on iPhone - issue in Sam's

On iOS, there are two settings that might affect a connection. The Web Protection feature, and the VPN feature. What can be confusing is that both features show the VPN icon in the notification area in iOS, while only the VPN actually hides your real location. The Web Protection feature uses Apples VPN programming APIs to provide the web protection feature.

Next time you have this issue, try turning one feature off at a time to see if your scan and go app works correctly.

I have the same problem with Asda scan and go and some other apps on my iPhone. They only seem to work and connect properly if VPN is disabled. I also have this problems with Norton Vault using mobile unlock. I also have to disable the VPN to allow the mobile unlock on Norton vault access to work. Surely Norton should be able to get their own applications to work together!

Did you verify whether it is the VPN or the Web Protection feature causing the  issue as I described in my post above?

If the other apps connect to a business's web site, it is possible that the site does not allow access from known IP addresses. There is nothing Norton can do about that. That may also apply to the Asda scan app if it has to connect to the company's web site.

Re: VPN on iPhone - issue in Sam's

I will have to wait until I next visit Asda as It only happens at the shop when linking thro either their free customer network or via the mobile phone network. It does not happen when I connect to these apps at home when I am using my network and broadband.

The problem with Norton Vault happens at home.
