If you are referring to the VPN showing your virtual location as Canada, if you have the VPN set to automatically choose a server, it will check for the server with the best connection from your real location. Sometimes that will mean a connection to another country. I am in Canada and occasionally will get connected to a server in the US.
Whatever your virtual location, if the VPN is connected you are protected.
