New update is using +50% of processing on idle

Hi, I have a problem with the new update since last week, after the patch updated itself automatically, the AV is totally useless, because when I double click on the new icon, I only get a +50% of processing and it will stay there forever. This happened to me in my other PC, so is not just one case. I unstalled it on my PC and installed the 22.22.6.10 version, but it just auto-updated again without my permission, even when I de-activated the auto updates, and to my surprise, the bug is still there. So now I have an AV that's not working and actually giving me another problem.

I have:

*Norton 360, last update

Windows 10 Pro 1607 (14393.0)

The error is simple, it consumes processing and I can't access the AV. It doesn't even open Norton 360 nor My norton windows.

I'm looking for a solution to this annoying bug, thanks.

Re: New update is using +50% of processing on idle

After the update, do you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available? Then restart again. Restarting, not shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled.   If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

I often see additional updates and sometimes a second patch that needs to be applied. The complete system restart is often crucial to getting everything working correctly.

Re: New update is using +50% of processing on idle

Hi, thanks for your reply. I can't access the AV, I can't even open the window to see the new design, there's a very serious issue with this new update and this won't be fixed with different settings on my Pc, it seems. Do you happen to know how to properly report a bug to developers?

Btw, I don't have that fast startup option in my UEFI, and like I said, I can't run anything in the AV. At this very moment I have 99% load on my processor.

This is something else and only them can fix it.

Cheers.

The fast startup feature is in Windows, not your BIOS. If you click on the link in my post above you will find information on checking this feature.

So after checking for this Windows feature being off, if after restarting you still cannot get to the Norton interface, you should reinstall Norton. Download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from   www.norton.com/nrnr   Be sure to use the Advanced Options > Remove Only. Then restart your computer and log into your Norton Account and download your 360 to your device. Then run the Liveupdate as noted above.

Re: New update is using +50% of processing on idle

Thanks for the correction. I now have turned off windows fast startup and nothing changed. I uninstalled Norton 360 for the second time (Before posting here was the first one) and I updated using Liveupdate right away the functional version (the one prior the deadly patch) was completetly installed. It then downloaded the last patch and everything changed as it is now.

I have this very same issue with my other laptop, and I strongly believe it has to do with my W10 2016 version, which it's also 64 bits.

Now I'm gonna install again the version that works for me until they fix this, and if it updates again without my permission I'll have to delete it completely and look for something else.

Thanks for your help. Cheers.
