Entering workingnomads dot com triggers a Norton pop up warning, clicking on this warning brings you to the Norton app where you see www dot workingnomads dot com :443 is unsafe page. You can click on View full message (in English can be called differently) for further information about the risks on the website. At the same time the website is blocked in a browser. So you're right thinking the Safari's response is related to Norton. Norton Mobile Security actually Safe Web works on iOS through a VPN so there is no extension in Safari. Advantage of this VPN protection is that it secures all internet traffic, not just in Safari.

FYI. The Safe Web feature does not use a VPN. What is happening is that because of how tightly Apple locks down iOS, Norton has to use the VPN programming API's to provide the Safe Web feature. That is why the VPN icon is shown in the iOS notification area at the top of the screen. There are no VPN features enabled with this feature.

Thanks for the clarification!
However you can't be surprised if one thinks that there is a real VPN when:
1) In iOS settings under VPN there is a Norton 360 entry that is permanently enabled and the VPN icon appears on an iDevice. Moreover when I use my business VPN, Norton's VPN has to be first disabled to let my VPN work.
2) In the Norton settings under Safe Web there is described: Safe Web identifies dangerous sites before you visit them and offers an on-device VPN that doesn't modify your location or data.
So all these facts lead to the (mistaken) belief that there is the real VPN. Most users aren't so tech-savy to understand that Norton uses only VPN programming API's instead of the real VPN. Yeah it's pretty confusing.
Question: Can be Secure VPN used together with Safe Web if Safe Web doesn't use the real VPN?

I hear you. And I have been taking it upon myself to educate users one at a time to this, somewhat strange, fact.

Yes. The two features have no conflicts.

A real VPN or just using its API is equal in the end. The important thing is that thanks to this protection, Norton filters entire internet traffic.
OK, I thought that Secure VPN can coexist with Safe Web just because Secure VPN is the real VPN and Secure Web just uses its API. Thanks for the confirmation.

@peterweb let me have another question please.
Will enabled Secure VPN log me out from apps, forums, etc.? I know that Safe Web keeps me logged in to all my accounts in apps, browsers, mails etc. but how it is with Secure VPN, being a real VPN? Doesn't interfere it with credentials?
Postado: 09-dez-2022 | 2:36PM · Link permanente
The VPN does not interfere with any web site credentials. What you may run into is many web sites that do not allow access from known VPN IP addresses. They do this for copyright, legal, security, and political reasons. There is nothing a VPN provider can or should do to circumvent these legal protections.
FYI...You are referring to Norton Secure VPN. Do you have the standalone Norton Secure VPN app installed along with Norton 360? If so, you should uninstall the standalone and use the VPN features of Norton 360.

Thanks, it's clear. Btw, I was talking about the Secure VPN feature in Norton 360.
