Failed to restore error when downloading file

New hard drive in the same tower that is listed on Norton Backup.  Last night I could download a couple of files onto the new hard drive.  Today on both my laptop and the tower when I try to download a file I get the message "failed to restore."  How can I get to all of my backed up files?

Hi Rojeho,
Welcome to Norton community.
Are you trying to restore the files using "Norton online backup"? Or the backup feature embedded within Norton 360?
Before you got this error message, did you start and cancel the restore process on a previous try?
Also do you get any error number along with the "failed to restore" error message?
Please also post the exact name, version of the norton product that you are using to restore the files, along with your operating system details.
Thanks,

Using Norton Online Backup.  I go to https://nobu.backup.com/ to start.  I want to be careful about semantics.  I am not using the "restore" option.  I am using the "download a file" option.

No.  I have never attempted a "restore."  I have only used "download a file"

Also do you get any error number along with the "failed to restore" error message?

No.  In the box there is a grey band at the top that says "File Download."  In the middle is the message "Failed to restore."  My only options are an "X" at the top right or a "Cancel" button.

Norton Online Backup.  Is there more needed to define this?  Laptop is XP Pro and has successfully downloaded files from the computer that I call "E520" in the past, including last week.  Tower which has a new hard drive (the old hard drive was the one called "E520" but is no longer in the tower) is Windows 7.  I was able to successfully download two files 24 hours ago.  Now I get the "Failed to Restore" error described above.

Re: Failed to restore error when downloading file

I am having the same issue.

I can't Download a File through the web interface.

I get the error message Fail to Restore with no error number.

I have Norton Online Backup.

I also find that the interaction with the NOB servers to be acting relatively slow.

Re: Failed to restore error when downloading file

I have been unable to download files all week. I have tried every day, and every time I get a "Failed to Restore" message with no other code. I was able to download one file one day, but I have received the "Failed to Restore" message every other time. I have tried probably 15 times.

I am using the backup services that are included with Norton 360. I have attempted to download using both Firefox and IE. My OS is Windows 7.

Thanks.

Re: Failed to restore error when downloading file

Seems as though I am not the only one.  Any help from Norton?  Or is all of my backup and the money and trust I paid for it gone for good?

Re: Failed to restore error when downloading file

I have the exact same issue, but I am trying to restore (download) many files through the Web Interface. I am trying to examine the online files to check their integrity and content before I download the entire group of folders of 16GB in size. They are all .JPG files. I need these files NOW and I should have access to download them via the Web Interface to a new PC that I am using as a staging computer. The staging computer has Symantec Endpoint Protection installed with  LiveUpdate. The original files were backed up using Norton 360 v5 I believe not Norton 360 v6.

Why has this issue not been resolved or a workaroound provided when the original issue was reported on 3/13? I CANNOT wait a similar period of time to gain access to these files.

The only workaround I will have to investigate is to try installing Norton360 on the staging computer and restoring through the application, not the Web Interface. It is broken.

Re: Failed to restore error when downloading file

Hello NOBU Team,

same issue here since many weeks.

I'm using webinterface https://nobu.backup.com (download or restore option).

I can't download any files from my old backups (60 GB, 4 GB per file).

Yesterday i have re-install NOBU client with the same issue. Symantec technican employe has make an remote session. No any ideas :-(

New backups from this client i can successfully restored / file downloaded (small test files).

Only old backups (other "client ID") can't restored / downloaded.

Error message is displayed on different maschines (Windows 2003 server, Windows 7, Windows XP, IE or FF).

I think it's not an client problem. Only an backup infrastructure problem on Symantec side.

Regards,

Alex
