Which Norton product came preinstalled? Online backup is an option you can use not a program that is independent of any other.
Please provide a few more details about what you have and what you want to do.

Sorry Dick, but Norton Online Backup is a seperate product.

It came pre-installed as a trial on one of my systems, which also came with McAfee - no NIS.

I uninstalled it from Windows Control Panel in the normal way, but it looks like they have tried that.
If the entry is still in All Programs there may be an option to uninstall there, similar to Dave's post here.

Are you referring to Norton Online Backup itself or the automatic reminder? The two are tied together but different.

I also cannot uninstall Norton online backup from my laptop. I have a new laptop with win 8 and I tried all known methods to uninstall this unwanted program. I am very angry with third party junk installed on my computer, Microsoft will hear my complaint loud and clear. I want to know how to get rid of this program.

i have the same problem with my new windows 8 samsung notebook xe500t1c
when i try to unninstal it the uninstall stays on collecting information for ever, it doesnt do anything.
when i click cancel the setup freezes on canceling and doesnt do anyting nor dissapear.
I really hate this commercial norton crap that comes with my new laptop, this stuff should be optional ...
the normal nortonstuff i was able to delete after it asking me a million times if i would like to buy it lol

Are you certain it's the actual product or the activation reminder?
The product activation reminder comes pre-installed on new machines where as the actual product is installed after setting up the account. Knowing which one will make a difference in the guidance provided. Also take note the removal tool won't remove either one at this time.
