Restore

I just restored my entire set of files. It says there were 22,457 files taking up 10.3 GB. However within the restored files folder there were 6,000 less and only 2.4 GB. Can anyone shed any light on why it's imcomplete?

Thank you.

Re: Restore

Hello Imageprods,

There are multiple backup sets available for restore. It's quite possible the last one performed was not complete. As a result you only restored a portion of what is available.

Go back to Restore Files and click on Options on the next page. From there, select another date and see if the content you're seeking is there. If you still aren't seeing it let me know and we can delve into it deeper.

Re: Restore

Thank you for your reply. What I noticed was that all the files were not restored within each sub-folder. Nothing changed from the 1st backup thru the most recent backup. I did not add files to any of the folders as I don't use that computer much and this has been a testing environment of your product which so far hasn't gone so well. Before getting your response, I attempted to deleted the restored files and start over, this time the restore reduced from the 22,457 files your system says is backed up to the 1st restore which had 16,000 files but the latest after deleting the restored files folder, it went down to 1,400 files. I did attempt to select a backup date where I know your system wasn't updating but took everything and when I selected that, the system wouldn't do anything. i tried numerous times and re-started the application but still nothing. So, I once again deleted the restored files and selected all files (but didn't go to OPTIONS to choose a backup date) and that is currently in process. It makes no sense that the restore should have to be tied to a backup, we should be able to restore everything that's on my partition of your system. How am I supposed to know when I added files to have to choose a backup date. Very illogical.

Thank you.

Re: Restore

Hello Wayne

That's precisely how it does work. What may prevent the files from being available from each date would be:

  • Drastically adding files in one backup and them deleting them locally or removing them from backup.
  • Purging the files using the in product purge feature.
  • The files in question were not able to be backed up on that specific date.
  • You've selected to restore files to the original location and didn't select to overwrite existing copies.

I've had the admins provide me with your email address so I could check your account. Right now I see a large restore actively running. Once it finishes we can review the end result.

Re: Restore

Again thank you for your reply.

I have not added ANY files since my initial backup so that cannot be the reason. So it makes no sense that all the files were not restored. And no I did not choose to put them in their original location. And no files were purged. If this was an active computer, how would I know what dates backup to restore from? And with this logic, I would need to restore from every backup if I added files each day to my computer. That's why I cannot understand why it doesn't restore from what I see when I navigate my computer on your site.

This also doesn't explain why when I do select any backup date, the system does nothing.

Unfortunately the amount of time spent has not been worth it as I don't see how this product can be relied upon. Consequently I will seek another solution.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Restore

If none of the items I referenced are in play you wouldn't need to worry about changing the date. Unless of course you purposely want to restore a file based on a specific change you made on a specific date. There is a  very likely and logical reason why it is not restoring what is expected.

If you still wish to pursue it I can setup a call with a Tier 2 agent to assist. If yes, let me know and we'll get things moving.

Re: Restore

Again thank you for your reply and your offer. However, this isn't brain surgery and things should work as they appear. I have already needed to perform "workarounds" to accommodate other flaws in this service so moving on to a more robust product is probably called for.

Thank you.

Re: Restore

Hello Imageprods,

We're continually improving our products.  There shouldn't be a need to use a ton of workarounds. I'd like to get your experience shared with our development teams. If you don't mind can you write up your issues and workarounds and send them via private message?

thanks for explaining this.

Re: Restore

If there was only one issue I don't mind sharing but there were at least three faults so I don't expect to use the product so not really worth the time unfortunately.
