norton online backup wont work after restart

I installed Norton Online Backup on 2 pc's running Windows XP, and NIS 2014. I did backup of both pc's without problem, but after restart of the system I have to reinstall Norton Online Backup to get it to work. This doesn't sound normal.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

Hello Berting,

To configure the Service so that it becomes set to "Automatic" (instead of "Manual"), do:

Open Services, by doing any of:

Start/Run…/type: “services.msc”/“OK”.

Or,

Start/(Settings)/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services.

Or,

Right-click “My Computer”/Manage/‘Services and Applications’ area: “Services”.

Scroll down to the Service.

Open the Properties for the Service, by either:

Double-clicking the Service,

Or

Right-click the Service and choose "Properties".

Service Properties dialog box: 'General' tab:

'Startup type:' option:

Click the down arrow for this field to show its options.

Choose "Automatic".

Click "OK" to confirm.

Close Services.

Reboot to test it.

Now if this resolves the problem, I recommend you make a new Restore Point.

Why make a Restore Point after making this change - Because if you encounter some other System problem and need to use a Restore Point, you want the Restore Point that you choose to be timed after having made your successful change, so this change is not reversed !

I hope this helps.

Hi Berting.

That does not sound normal to me, but as you say you are using Norton Online Backup I am going to suggest that this thread is transferred to that forum for you to get better informed advice.  A stub should remain here to direct you over to the other forum if you need it.

Good luck.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

Thanks for moving it, I am not sure how it got in Norton 360, because I use NIS, and Online Backup separately. I really hope someone can offer advice because it is annoying to have to reinstall Online Backup after each reboot.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

I have done a lot of searching for this problem. I found on services, Norton Online Backup service stopped. I started the service and it works fine. The setting is manual start. My question is why the service wont start form the desktop icon. As well why it isn't it a start-up program? It is like this on both my XP pc's.

I installed my Norton Online Backup on mv iMac. It works just fine even after rebooting. Too bad it is not so good on my PC's.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

Still havn't solved the problem of my Online Backup, after reboot. The workaround as said before is to go to services and start the NOBU service. It is odd that NOBU works perfectly on my Mac.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

Berting,

What service pack are you running on your windows machine?  Also have you went to run / msconfig / sytems services and selected the service to start on boot? Let me know if this fixes the problem or what service pack of XP are you running.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

I am still unable to figure out why my online backup doesnt work after restart. This may be related to older OS, like Windows XP.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

I am running XP service pack 3. In fact I have gone to msconfig systems services started the service Norton Online Backup and it works perfectly, but no matter what I do it wont start on startup, it needs to be manually started.

Re: norton online backup wont work after restart

Now that my NOBU is running all the time another problem has occurred. The NOBU stays on line constantly. I noticed the internet activity light on my modem was blinking quickly a lot of the time, as if I was downloading a file. After some research I found that the pc with the NOBU running was the problem, so I stopped the  NOBU service and the internet activity stopped.

Any ideas?

I guess maybe I should leave the Norton Online Backup service stopped when not backing up and back up manually.
