NOBU not working on 3 of 4 PCs. Shows only 49% of 100GB used.

This is a continuation of my earlier post/thread of 29 August 2013. It could not be solved at Tier 1 level then, so I was asked to send personal message to a person who is no longer available. When I queried this, no one else offered to help & I was told to put it on Norton Community again!   - So here it is again! - with apologies to anyone who read my earlier thread!

I’ve used NOBU since 2011 but since mid-2013 it’s only backing up on 3 of 4 PCs. It starts automatically on my desktop, but on 3 other rarely used pcs (1 x netbook, 2 x laptops), it’s now not starting at all.

On first opening my NOBU page, it has shown the same message 3 times that NOBU storage expired (no.of) days ago + the option to Buy More Storage. These messages disappeared this week.

The page has always, & still shows, 49% of 100GB used.

Today, the backup on my desktop started automatically, but failed, & I got this message dated 5/9/2103!

“Backup not successful. Your backup failed because the total size of the files selected for backup is larger than the available storage in your account. Your important files will not be backed up until this is resolved. You can easily add more storage to your account and ensure you have sufficient storage to resume backups. Buy More Storage Now or you can reduce the files in your backup. Change Your Settings” (This message shows on all computers)

I then clicked the desktop’s “Backup now” and this time, backup (13.19 GB) completed successfully even tho’ I had not used, removed or changed any files since the earlier attempt.

My Norton Account page shows 3 pcs with “Online Storage has expired” & I x NOBU due for renewal on 30 Dec 2013, so I am wondering how much storage I really have. If I have only used 49% of 100GB and the total GB used by all 4 individual pcs only equals 36.32 GB, (ie more than 25GB) do I REALLY have the 100GB showing on my NOBU page or is the info on this page incorrect and I only have 25 GB?

As I’ve been using NOBU since 2011, I’m now wondering if the last “automatic renewal” (Dec 2012) for 2013 only gave me 25GB instead of renewing the full 100GB I’d purchased in 2012?  (ie: it’s not really automatic! so I have turned off automatic renewal)

I have already lost days 170+ days x 3 PCs of storage since the backups stopped mid-2013, so am reluctant to buy more storage if this will not fix the problem.

Can someone advise please?

Thanks

Re: NOBU not working on 3 of 4 PCs. Shows only 49% of 100GB used.

Hello Bugnort,

You write;

"it’s only backing up on 3 of 4 PCs"

And:

"on 3 other rarely used pcs (1 x netbook, 2 x laptops), it’s now not starting at all"

And:

"My Norton Account page shows 3 pcs with "Online Storage has expired" & I x NOBU due for renewal on 30 Dec 2013".

Your message is unclear as to how many computers to which you believe your NOB subscription should currently be active.

Do you have 4 computers in total of which the "rarely used pcs" are included?

From your message I understand you have two concerns, one is as to your subscription and the other is as to how much space you have been alloted.

These seem to me to need to be dealt with separately.

Firstly you need to ensure that for each computer for which you want to use NOB, you have a currently active subscription.

This subscription may only give you the default amount of space.

Once you are certain of the active subscription, you can then pay for additional space.

First ensure you have a valid subscription.

Then sort out the space alloted.

If you are unsure about how the amount of space is alloted either in total for all covered machines or individually, you can ask Customer Service about that, but first ensure you have valid a subscription for each machine on which you want to use NOB.

I am not associated with Symantec / Norton, but I thought I would answer your question because no one else has.

I hope you find this helpful.

Regards,

Robert333.

Re: NOBU not working on 3 of 4 PCs. Shows only 49% of 100GB used.

Hi Robert and thanks for your response.

In 2012 I had a current subscription and 100 GB storage which covered all of my 4 computers and all were backing up OK.My NOBU page said (and still says) 49% of my 100GB has been used.

My subscription was automatically renewed for 2013 and is still current. As a 1 year NOBU subscription covers up to 5 machines, I'd assumed all 4 pcs would still be covered, but only 1 pc is backing up. On the other 3 computers NOBU says my subscription expired 355 days ago.

My subscription is due to expire at the end of this month and I now suspect the automatic renewal only renewed the normal subscription for 25 GB, not the extra storage I had purchased in 2012.

I have turned off automatic subscription and will take your advice & ring Customer Service.

Thanks again for responding. Much appreciated. :)

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
