Why so slow?

I attempted to trial Online Backup for the first time yesterday. I have about 6.1 Gb to upload. 16 hours after starting it was still showing as only 31% complete.
I have just run a speed test and my upload speed is showing as only 0.95 Mbps. (OS is Windows XP SP3).
Is this the problem - or is something else going on?
