10 hours later...only 8% Online Backup Complete!

Hi all! I just ordered Norton Online Backup. I started my first Backup at about 1pm this afternoon! It's 9:22 now and only 8% complete! Is this right??!!!  I don't have many pictures in My Pictures folder and My Documents is also a reasonable amount! I really didn't expect it to take THIS long!

   Welcome. The backup process takes time according to the speed of your Internet Connection. And how much is the total size of the files you're backing up right now? And how much space is free in your C: drive?

   speed of your Internet Connection = Your Internet sonnections Upload speed.

Thanks Subash for getting back to me! The file size is 9.2G. And the upload speed is up to 512kbps.  Not sure what I am getting though. Michelle :-)

Hi Michelle

      Please do the backup little by little. Like 1GB at a time. Because concentrating on a small amount will be better when compared to a lot.

Most internet service plans provide much slower upload speeds than download speeds, so it can take a very long time to upload a large quantity of data.  What you are seeing is not unusual.  Here is a chart that will give you some idea of the times involved:

Thanks so much Send. The chart was very helpful and now I know it's ok to expect this time frame.  Having said that, my last back up attempt got to 46%.  I let the computer go to sleep and instead of resuming where it left off, it started at 1% again.  Then after an hour, it said Back Up Failed (A2816).  It keeps doing this wih every attempt to get through my first back up yet my status is showing 3.6g used of 25g.  But when I go to File Actions to see what is there, it says "no files have been backed up for this computer".  So I am unsure of what I am doing incorrectly.

OK, a little update.  So finally after 14 hours, I have a successful 4.46GB backup! Yeah! BUT, that's my only successful backup since purchasing NOBU 7 days ago yet my graph (top right) says I have used 5.66GB of my 25GB storage.  So considering my 4.46GB successful backup is only 1 Folder in My Documents (all of which are business related), I need every GB I can get! Haha! So I am unsure where the other 1.2GB went.

 

Anyways, I am in no way causing trouble as I commited to NOBU for a reason...I researched and purchased this product because I know I can trust the security I need for my clients here.  I just need to learn what I am doing wrong.

Sorry...I can actually answer my last post now!  I just checked the backed up files.  It seems even though I only specified 1 Folder in the Settings, 2 other folders were backed up including Adobe Flash!  That will certainly explain it! lol So, going to continue my backup and hope all is well!
