Liveupdate does not work for me and it seems the 16.2.0.7 update may resolve this problem however Tim Lopez instructs us to run liveupdate for this patch (http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=26534). If I can’t run live update then how can i get this patch?
whenever i run liveupdate the “check for updates” says “failed to complete” I’m using windows xp sp3, I recently reformatted the hd 3 days ago so this is clean install (no previous security software) and i am not using any other security software.
Have you restarted your computer recently? If not, please try that first.
Have you tried opening the main Norton interface and going to Help & Support > One Click Support? The automated Support Session can often diagnose problems with your Norton Product.
Let us know.
Hi SLaYnE,
Try these steps and post that exact LiveUpdate error.
1. When the LiveUpdate fails, click View Summary that is displayed on the LiveUpdate window.
2. In the LiveUpdate Summary window, click Tech Support that is displayed under the failed update.
3. One Click Support window opens and connects to the Support.
4. Note down the exact LiveUpdate error that is displayed on the One Click Support window.

The error I get when i run the liveupdate is “Error: Unable to connect to the Norton LiveUpdate server. Please check your Internet connection (8921,229)” And no i do not have a firewall on. Is there any way for me to upgrade to 16.2.0.7 manually?

Please can you Run the One Click Support, Auto-Fix Tool and let us know if it Completes and what it finds and if it Fixes it.
Also, recently, symantec have had Issues with the symantec Server which symantec are trying to Fix as soon as possible. This may be why you are getting this Error.
When did this happen the first time? Please can you check your Version to be sure it is not 16.2.0.7. Thanks!
Hi SLaYnE,
Thanks for the error code.
Have you followed the instructions mentioned in this Symantec Support Article for the 8921,229 error?
For time being, update the virus definitions for your Norton program using the Intelligent Updater from below link:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95
Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. Save the file to the Windows desktop and when the download completes, double-click the exe file.

I have fixed the problem, it was some sort of malware that norton could not detect. I downloaded superantispyware and scanned in safe mode. It found afew threats and removed them. Everything seems fine now.
