19.5.0.145 - Small yet annoying UI bug

I prefer to have NIS set to open the Advanced view as default, but after receiving 19.5.0.145 this morning I'm seeing the Simple UI open for about a half second before it switches to the Advanced view. It isn't a huge problem, but it's just a bit annoying, I suppose. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this same thing.

All video drivers are up to date.

Same issue on Windows XP SP3 and Vista SP2.

Hi killyourtv:

This is exactly right. I even tried a reboot just to make sure but there is a lag when you start with the Advanced View set to default. Upon clicking from the Icon in your Start Menu or from the Tray, NIS will pop open to Basic (standard view) before transitioning to the Advanced view. Same deal for XP and 7.

It is a bit annoying, IMHO. Has the GUI slowed down in it's "switching" logic?

Have you tried to push the button on the right up of the Advanced window?

I have the pushpin selected (horizontal) for Advanced mode, but see the same thing the other users have reported.

When I open Norton, I see the Basic window for a half-second before it switches to the Advanced window.  WinXP Pro x86 SP3.

Right. Advanced is pinned, and has been since the 2012 Beta. I'm sure this glitch just slipped through the cracks, somehow.:smileysad:
Thanks to everyone for confirming this.

Hi all:

My default view is Advanced and there is a pronounced slowdown with the GUI when opening the window.

It is not as snappy as it was before in 19.2 from what I see. Does anyone notice the same thing on XP and 7?

Thanks,

For me the UI itself is opening faster than ever. Sorry that you aren't seeing the same behavior.

All,

We're investigating this bug and will address it in a future update. Sorry for the trouble!

Confirmed on WinXP SP3 Pro 32bit. about 0.5-1 sec after open main UI window I saw non-advanced view and after that advanced menu appearing with all components are disabled and are red (very fast - for about 0.1 sec) and after that all components became On and green. I never saw that on any beta versions and 19.1.0.28, 19.1.1.3, 19.2.0.10. Looks like no bug/lack just slow, step-to-step loading of interface...

By the way, Symantec, did you saw how fast opens the main window UI of NOD32, MS Esentials? Can be Norton so fast to open main UI window or close to them? Norton opens in about 3 seconds (19.5 with icons line load in the bottom of the window), others in about 0.3 seconds. in 10 times faster.

I'm seeing the same UI odd behavior .

NIS 2012 19.5.0.145  ~ Vista SP2 32bit

Hi all:

I am also seeing that the bottom row of icons in the Advanced GUI rise up slowly from the bottom of the window.

Anyone see that as well? I know that GORPY1 did. All of this started with 19.5, IMO.

Yes, Exactly as you describe above  & Yes, All of this started with 19.5

Hi,

The simple window appears almost long enough to identify it. The the advanced window is in place. Then the icons rise up from the bottom of the window. Not a problem, I sort of like the way it happens.

Hi

19.5 icons rise from the depths at a very very very slow pace on my netbook. But the

poor thing lacks the horse power of my laptop which is also a bit slow now. But kind of

cool as i agree with dickevans i like the way it happens on my laptop with the quad core

processor and all the goodies the icons roll out like a wave. But it still is a little bit slow

to wake up and respond. Seems like the NIS control panel does not like to be woken from

its nap as it is a bit slow to wake up now and roll out of bed.:smileyvery-happy:

Windows 7 Ultimate Laptop

Windows 7 Starter Netbook

Have not had time to play with the XP Desktop yet.  :-(

Cheers:smileywink:

Same here.

Any new status?

Still not fixed for me, with the latest patches.
