2 LAN PC's Not Accessible

I have three desktop PC's on a local LAN, all wired connections.  There are also three laptops with wireless connections and one which is wired.  I'm using a router as part of my internet connection.

I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2011 from 2010 on my main desktop and two of the laptops.  Since installing NIS, I have not been able to access the two laptops, except using TightVNC.  However, my desktop is accessible from other computers, including the two laptops. When I ping the laptops, the request times out.  I don't see them listed when opening the Network folder.  Before installing NIS, everything was normal.  It doesn't appear to be a DNS issue, since neither names nor IP addresses work.  I then tried uninstalling NIS on one of the laptops and regained access.  When I reinstalled, it was back to square one.  All of the computers listed in NIS are at the Trust/Shared level.

Any ideas, short of uninstalling the program on the laptops?

Thanks.

Hi jcr1029,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Just to confirm, your LAN PC's are set to Full Trust in the Network Security Map of NIS 2011?

If so, can you disable only the Smart Firewall from NIS 2011 and check whether you can access the other computers in network? You can right-click on the Norton icon in system tray and select the option disable the Smart firewall.

Thanks for the welcome.

Well, I just solved it after reading your first sentence.  I had been looking at the PC icons across the top, but not specifically at the wireless network "edit".  It was PROTECTED and when I changed it to SHARE, the connection was made.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Glad that you are able to resolve it quickly using the hint. Enjoy using NIS 2011!!
