20.3.0.36: Norton LiveUpdate "Pending" Status

Hi, Norton Community!

The icons for the "Pending" Status has been changed to the "Attention" Status from the Grey "/" Status.  Why?  There is nothing the User can do, so there is no Attention needed, so I feel this is the in-correct Status to have as a Pending Status.  The Grey Question Mark used on the Norton Safe Web would be a more suited icon to be used, or go back to what the icon was previously.

Hi, WLP,

Thanks for letting me know.  Just to point out, the Yellow Status means "Working", so, since the Status is "Pending", using the "Working" Status on these Tasks would not be the correct Status.  Just wanted to let you know in case you were un-aware of this.  Thanks once again.

Turn off "email protection" and you will get the same orange exlamation point (!) in the taskbar icon.

Indeed.  That's because you have reduced your protection; E-Mail Protection is an important thing to have as it protects you from e-mail Threats/Viruses.  However, the reason it goes to Attention is because a Threat could have Dis-Abled it, hence why it goes to "Off", and you may not be able to Turn it On again until the Threat has been removed, for example, and a Repair is completed on your Norton Product.  This is why it went to "Attention" because it needs the User's Attention in order for this to be Repaired; to alert the user to this so that they can get protected again.  Take Virus Definitions, for example as well.  If the Virus Definitions have not been Updated for about Five Days due to the computer being Off, then the Security Status will change to "Attention"; all the User needs to do is to Run Norton LiveUpdate in order to Fix this.  With regards to Norton LiveUpdate "Pending" Status: There is nothing the user can do to fix this - as there is nothing that needs fixing - so using the Attention "!" Status is the wrong Status to have as it is waiting until the previous Process has completed to see if it will be required to Run.  Now, if the Task only half-Runs, for example, it only Downloads half an Update, then the Attention Status is correct in this matter; if it Fails To Complete then the Red "X" Status is the correct one to use.

-----------------

If you Turn Off "Anti-Virus", for example, it will turn to "At Risk", which is the Red Background with a White Cross; this is because this is a Critical Component to have and must remain "On" at all times.  Again, this is to alert the User that they are at risk of Threats, and require urgent attention; this is Higher Attention Required than the "Attention" Status.

That status alert can be disabled.  Hover your mouse pointer over "Email Protection" in the Norton Advanced Settings window and choose "Ignore."  Email scanning will detect threats as they are arriving, but offers no other advantage over simply allowing Auto-Protect to remove a threat on access.  So while some users may prefer to use it to prevent threats from getting to the Inbox in the first place, email scanning is still more of a supplemental protection than an essential element.  In many cases, ISPs are now requiring secure connections, and Norton cannot examine the encrypted traffic anyway, so for many users, email scanning is no longer an option.

What I mean is that the orange exclamation point (!) tend to invoke sense of "warning" and such as evident by the same symbol used when email protection is disabled.
